Reportedly, like Ghosal, there are many adults who lead secret lives on the Internet, where they can choose to be anyone they want!
The world of technology -- it has brought people closer; at the same time, for many, it has driven close ones away.
My good friend Amrita (name changed), has been upset for the last few months. Reason: Her father, Arun Ghosal, was spending most of his time online whenever at home. Although the regime did upset his wife, she ignored the issue till she caught her husband conversing intimately with someone on a popular chat site. Ghosal tried to explain that he was chatting with a fake identity, it didn't mean anything, and that it was just a momentary online indulgence. But all this didn't go down well with his wife. Now, the whole family is unhappy, so much so that the future of the marriage seems to be on tenterhooks.
While this may not be an everyday story of an average Indian home, it still deserves some thought. Reportedly, like Ghosal, there are many adults who lead secret lives on the Internet, where they can choose to be anyone they want, along with indulging in lewd chatting, watching porn, and so on. Ironically, earlier it was the parents who were wary about their children falling prey to the adversities of the World Wide Web; it can be quite awkward with the roles thus reversed.
And while there is nothing "unhealthy" or "wrong" with lewd chatting or watching porn as several studies have shown; to actually create and maintain a fake identity to be able to do these things reeks of a certain lack of moral grounding, especially if you happen to be married or involved with someone else. Or does it?
Is it just a case of cultivating a convenient, feel-good option to vent some of the boredom out of our busy lives? In any case, how does one deal with such a situation - counseling, disciplinary action, or just some love and affection? Easier said than done nah?
"nothing "unhealthy" or "wrong" with lewd chatting or watching porn as several studies have shown"
Don't know which studies you are referring to but it is not difficult to understand logically what is the effect of porn.
Perhaps you have been very selective about which studies you have seen. Probably the ones financed by porn producers.
