How many times do we come across an email or a website containing audio, video, or document files that everyone is going ga-ga over, but we can't play them because our computer requires some obscure codec to be downloaded from some out-of-this-world remote server we've never heard of before? This happens a lot, at least with most people I know.
Anyhow, in the case of audio and video files, I took it upon myself to make people understand what codecs are, and provided most of them with free codec packs that are available for download.
But the problem here is, people don't want to keep installing stuff onto their PCs all the time; and secondly, most of them watch these videos during office hours, which means they have a limited access account that won't allow them to install any software. Same goes for documents or archived files as well, as you have to have a software application that supports such formats.
So, I looked around for other options and came across a web application that would help you convert a file from one format to another - be it an image, document, audio, or video file.
Media-Convert
Media-Convert is a free online utility that allows you to convert files of virtually any format into the one that you require. For example, .jpg to .gif, .docx to .doc, .zip to .rar, and many more.
It allows you to convert files stored on your computer, as well as those embedded into a webpage. It also allows you to host the file on the site for free for upto 60 days. Therefore, you can send a link of the file to anyone without the need to attach it in the mail. You can also generate a GPRS/WAP download link. The only limitation here is the 150 MB file size limit.
It also has a MIDI sequencer that will allow you to create your own music online.
Now that I have you intrigued, let's see how to get this thing to work on the next page.
