Control Pod

The square Control Pod of the FX5051 is a not just a volume control, unlike the one with Bose. This has a lot more options: it has buttons for power, bass, treble, along with a center and rear button. All these buttons, except for the power button, are placed encircling the volume jog dial. The buttons form a semi-circle, while the other half of the circle has LEDs placed equidistantly to display the volume of the system. The power button is placed in one corner, whereas the diagonal corner has a sloping end below which there is an Infrared reception for the remote.

On the right side of the control pod are two stereo jacks: one for AUX and the other one for the headphone. This way you can use an external audio source through the AUX, or simply enjoy using the headphones without disturbing anyone around.

The control pod has a rubber base, similar to the one with Bose; this prevents the pod from moving from its position. The rubber base really doesn't matter since you have a cable attached to the pod which is easily double its weight. We placed the pod on the table, but the attached cable commanded the pod's position. Take a look at the picture below.

The buttons on the control pod help fine-tune each adjustment according to specific button in the jog-dial. While adjusting the bass, treble and center speaker was simple, adjusting the rear speaker volume was confusing. Adjusting the output of the rear speakers made the jog-dial feel more like panning the output between the front and rear speakers.
Remote
Having a wireless remote for a system offers ease of use, especially when you are sitting at a reasonable distance, and can still control its output. The remote provided with the FX5051 has the same controls as on the control pod.

The remote needs to be pointing at the receiver, else it wouldn't work. The remote has an odd design: its head is tilted, so it needs to be aimed at the receiver at a certain angle. The remote is slim, such that it would slip from your hands easily. When kept on a table, the rubber stoppers under the remote prevent it form sliding around. The remote uses a large button cell battery.
