    BOSE Companion 5

Frazier Barretto, Jun 13, 2007 1849 hrs IST

The sound experience here is undoubtedly one of the best and it saves you the hassles of buying a high quality sound card. But is it a worthy companion?

Crisp and Immersive Sound, Good Bass, Control Pod, USB Connector, Inbuilt sound processing.

Play in the Volume, Bass goes flat after 70-75% of system volume, Expensive.

BOSE a manufacturer of high-end audio systems; after concentrating on systems for larger areas like stadiums and home theaters are now looking to focus on a bigger market. They began a series of Multimedia Speakers to go along with your PCs called the Companion Multimedia Speaker System. Till date there have been a few in this range but they didn't exactly deliver what BOSE is acclaimed for. The Companion 5 seeks to change all of that and make a stand even in this market. The PC speaker these days is not about just delivering some noise but quality sound while enjoying the pleasure of listening to our music collection or watching a movie or playing a game.

Today we have with us the BOSE Companion 5 Multimedia Speakers that deliver a 5.1 surround sound. It's a virtual 5.1 because the actual hardware that you get is just a 2.1-channel system.

I own Creative, I own Bose. Dear dont compare, creative is ages behind. Well more to this, just go creative offical forum and search gigaworks there. You will know what crap they have created.

creative is good, but it far away from bose technology. They are waste of money specially Gigaworks.

I'd like to say something about bose in their defense. In these days of abundant white goods we forget the value of reliability. A speaker system life is not something that techtree can even begin discussing. Case in point : I've had these harmon kardons that lasted me ages and outlived most other speakers i have bought (Altec Lansing , Techcom , Phlips etc) . One of my relatives has a bose which still sounds sweet and clear after many years of service. Components for good systems have very precise tolerances but even these start varying with age. So don't be so shortsighted in life. Bose systems sure are expensive but before we judge them to be "a waste of money" do open them and look inside !!

lol its the same with the any other bookshelf speakers, they last long too. My arguement is why buy Bose for 20k and get shitty quality out of it instead of getting bookshelf or any other decent speakers and get good sound quaity. Lol u talk about lifetime, why would anyone want to hear the shitty quality of bose life long. Really the bose are ripping the people apart with their premium price, thanks to their marketting company which is one of the best in the world.

i agree, Bose is reliable and has amazing after sales service. Gentleman I would urge you to refrain from comparing Bose and Ahuja speakers or even creative for that matter, Bose caters more to the sophisticated audience who do not necessarily are the greatest proponents of bass and such, therefore a comparison between Gigaworks or whatever such systems may be called is not appreciated.

Bose quality is awesome. People who are saying shitty quality.. they are real idiots. Have they ever listened to a Bose lifestyle 48 or even looked at the features? They haven't been to a real movie theater i believe. They just love the big woofers and pump. They can't see, bose produces much better quality sound even at full volume and it's not painful to someone sitting just in front of woofer. They uses a different technology to get the effects. Idiotic people cannot see that, they see price. why should i go for 23000, when i get it at 2300. Totally waste people who thinks like that.

I have been using bang and olufsen from 70's. I don't hesitate that their systems, Tv and speakers are beyond compare, but of lately their systems have become way too expensive.

Have you lot lost the plot? this started off talking about a set of ?270 Bose speakers for a PC and ends in talking about 3k's worth of B&O speakers. I love Bose, have pently of them. They are expensive, extremely good and light years beyond normal garbage like Creative, MS, BW or any ramal you find on the high street. B&O on the other are in Premiere devision and at a price that most of us are only dreaming of owning. Compare egss for eggs, guys get real!!

To all these Bose bashers, im a recent Bose fan, as of about a year ago. i used to be a bose basher myself, i was ignorant, but then a friend of mine forced me into a Bose outlet and i heard them first hand, no question about it, I love them, i even bought my self a Companion 3 system.

You gys talking of "bang and olufsen", you think its created by GOD because you have spent so much on them. well my home brew sound system will piss of the best B'n'O. Its a 3000 watt rotary subwoofer, along with a 4800watts of other six speakers(4 x 2 full range, 1 x 2 hi-fi tweeters.) immerse in music.

Hi Amit, Have you ever heard of a comparison between Rolls Royce and ambassador car. Well congratulations you have manged that feat in your post. I seriously doubt it that your system is going to "piss" even an entry level B&O system. forget about their higher end. Wattage as you are aware is a subjective term with 2 kinds of units and systems to measure it (PMPO and RMS). I don't know if you have ever heard of beolab 2 that is the strongest subwoofer out there with 1100 rms watts of class D ice power amplification enough to blow away any system and beolab 5 with digital and analogue class d amplification of 2000 watts rms from each speaker. So i would recommend that you go and listen to B&O systems before making any childish comments. FYI they have a showroom in delhi. I am quite sure that after listening to them you may end up buying one of it and selling your own.

Half of you bose bashers cant afford bose, and the rest of you have never heard bose. Most people compare the Bose sub/sat systems to floor standing speakers, compare them to sub/sats from other brands and you will be understand why bose is miles ahead. go to the showroom and listen, take your own DVD and play it...

Hi Mike Go to towncenter at Jumaira and hear the sound of beolab 4 pc at bang and olufsen showroom. You will hear the difference.

its a Bose after, piece of shit priced so high. One would rather settle for whafedles and a decent amp and enjoy instead abt spending for this crap. But some people never understands that. Bose means, "ohyeah its awesome, nothing beats Bose, "lol. Ignorant people, i pitty them.

All those who says, it is costly and not worth money. That is because they all cannot afford it. Buy it and tell me you don't love it. It is definately costly and one can buy other good systems in less than the cost of BOSE systems, but its the quality of the sound that comes out of those masterpiece.. I am yet to see something that can beat BOSE's quality. I own Companion 2 and I will soon buy Companion 5....you can call me crazy or whatever but it's the clear, crisp and amazing sound that makes one go crazy.

Come now guys, you don't just pay for the speakers but also for the fantastic inputs of R & D as well. Not to mention the innumerable man hours in perfecting each product. It is very easy to brush aside a product saying it is expensive but remember it is for the niche market and not the mass market. This statement however dosen't gel well with the masses, hence all the adverse comments. Although I love Bose products, I am yet to yet one. That dosen't make Bose a bad manufacturer ! Comprende monsieur ?

Bose is a good brand for speakers and if u are an audiophile yes they are good speakers. But investing so much on speakers is waste of money.Better to get a decent or top end sound card and good 5.1 speakers.I am using Z5500 and using an audigy and they really work greatt. It would be stupidity to be just spendthrift.Even altec lansing, creative and logitech make gooooood audio products.

BOSE SUCKS! I'd rather pay 18k and get a Creative Megaworks!! And that is THX certified. Or I'd go for some professional Indian brands like Torvin or Sonodyne

BOSE the brand itself is not worth the price they command...its nowhere among perfectionists in US n Europe...
