RealNetworks has unveiled an updated version of its RealPlayer, claimed to be the first media player able to download online videos with just one-click.

The company says the updated version or RealPlayer 11 makes it easy for consumers to watch videos whenever and wherever they want, burn them to DVDs and CDs, and share video links with friends.

RealPlayer 11 supports videos created in most of the major formats, including Real, Windows Media, Flash, and Quicktime.

Talking about the product, Rob Glaser, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, RealNetworks, said, "The new RealPlayer gives consumers more control of Internet video than was ever possible before. By floating a 'download this video' button next to video seen on thousands of Web sites, RealPlayer 11 makes downloading as simple as one-click. The new RealPlayer is a major step towards realizing our vision of bringing great digital entertainment to more people on more screens around the world."

With RealPlayer 11, consumers can download multiple videos simultaneously, thus saving time and being able to easily multi-task. Users can also start downloading in the middle of watching a video, and yet, the entire video would be captured.

Consumers can send links of their favorite videos to their friends with a convenient 'Share with a Friend' feature. The link that arrives in the email will direct their buddies to the online source of video content that they downloaded.

RealPlayer 11, which features an improved look and feel, a streamlined installation process, and faster video playback, will only download or record video that is not protected by Digital Rights Management (DRM) systems, says RealNetworks.

According to the company, RealPlayer 11 will first be released for Windows, and will work with both Microsoft Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox. RealNetworks is also planning a version for the Mac that would be released later this year.

Meanwhile, a public beta of RealPlayer 11 will be available for free download at www.realplayer.com later this month.
