The initiative is being flagged off with an email id for residents of Lokhandwala in Andheri, Mumbai, called www.lokhandwalarocks.com.
An initiative to provide a unique email id for every kind of Indian to be powered by Windows Live Hotmail, has just been announced by Microsoft.
With this, users in India can have any email id they want, through a feature called custom domains. The initiative is being flagged off with an email id for residents of Lokhandwala in Andheri, Mumbai, called www.lokhandwalarocks.com. This is Microsoft's first step towards customizing email for consumers in India.
Speaking on the occasion, Jaspreet Bindra, Country Manager of Online Services Group India, Microsoft, said, "The residents of Lokhandwala will now have their own email ids through www.lokhandwalarocks.com. Users can have their own ids, and enjoy all the added features of Windows Live Hotmail. Similarly, we aim to deliver an email id for every kind of Indian, which truly reflects their identity and personality."
It is learnt that the team behind this initiative is promoting www.lokhandwalarocks.com by visiting each and every residential society in the area, and spreading awareness about the features and advantages of such a service.
Abhisht Arora, Director of Product Management, Online Services Group, Microsoft, added, "We are really excited to empower consumers to make Windows Live Hotmail their own, by providing the ability to choose a meaningful email address that has a deeper connect with consumers' identities and interests."
Windows Live Hotmail is the next generation of MSN Hotmail, wherein people can get their email any time, and any where, in the way they want, via the Web, mobile phone, or desktop. The service is integrated with other Windows Live services such as Windows Live Messenger and Windows Live Spaces to deliver an integrated communication experience for users.
Krishna Prasad, Executive Producer, MSN India, said, "We have used this opportunity to tie-up with the movie 'Shoot Out at Lokhandwala'. Users can now take part in a contest using their lokhandwalarocks.com email id, and win passes for the Asia premiere of the movie."
Read the last line of the article. Krishna Prasad, Executive Producer, MSN India, said, "We have used this opportunity to tie-up with the movie 'Shoot Out at Lokhandwala'. They are promoting the movie. Rest is all crap
What Microsoft is really trying to do here is ensure that it can have the personal information starting with the location in order to identify the person behind each and every Indian who gets an email id from them. They may be able to provide better personalized services, but then privacy concerns should also be raised. I will not want to get some email id from anyone which will identify me to a particular location, community or group, even if that email id is free. I know people still have choices, but most Indians will not realize what Microsoft's hidden agenda is behing this plan.
hahah joke by microsoft i agree privacy is at stake... also this will take many many years to get such info.. they should insted look at improving their quality simple thig like loging on to MSN messenger takes hell of a time is unsuccessful most of the time..
This is a joke!!! What next, a domain for every home, school, and college in India?? I think Microsoft should look to improve Quality of Service rather than make worthless promotions!
