It seems talking on mobile phones is getting cheaper by the day, with mobile operators in the race to outdo each other as regards slashing tariffs.

Reliance Communications (RCom) has now announced a 70 percent reduction in roaming rates on some of its tariff plans. This comes days after the company slashed ISD call rates to the US and Canada.

The company says that a customer availing these plans will be charged a flat rate of 40 paise for making and receiving calls while traveling within the country.

The company has also slashed incoming call rates on roaming from the earlier Rs 1.75 a minute to Re 1 per minute.

In February this year, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) had reduced roaming charges, as per which, the maximum permissible charge for roaming calls, irrespective of terminating networks and tariff plans, was set at Rs 1.40 per minute for outgoing local calls, Rs 2.40 for outgoing national long distance calls, and Rs 1.75 for incoming calls.

Commenting on the 70 percent reduction, S P Shukla, President of Personal Business, RCom, said they have taken this a step further in reducing roaming rates to as low as 40 paise per minute on select plans. Shukla expressed hope that this would add real value for customers who need to travel across the country.

Meanwhile, the tariff plans on both post-paid and pre-paid, on which the 70 percent reduction is applicable, are now available for subscription.

All private mobile service providers are cheaters. They all have hidden costs behind their schemes where they write with astrik mark 'conditions apply' in small letters. Go for MTNL or BSNL their customer service may not be very good but at least they are not cheaters. They don't treat their customers as fools.

Reliance is a general service provider for masses. But its customer and after sales service is pathetic, worst I would say. Airtel is a premium service provider and has excellent customer service. So if you want to pay less with poor service then go for Reliance else pay more with excellent service and go for Airtel
