Reliance Communications (RCom) has bagged an e-governance project from the government of West Bengal for providing rural connectivity in its villages.

The company says that under this project, it will set up nearly 1,860 Common Service Centers (CSC) across the state for providing government-to-government, government-to-business, business-to-business, and business-to-consumer services.

RCom has signed a Master Service Agreement (MSA) with the government of West Bengal to commence execution of the CSC project under the guidelines of the Department of Information Technology. Besides, the project will benefit around 26 lakh households in the state.

According to company sources, the project would cover North 24 Parganas, West Midnapur, Burdwan, and Purulia districts. And the business model would be on a build-own and operate basis.

Speaking on the occasion, M N Roy, Principal Secretary of West Bengal Panchayat and Rural Development, said that the West Bengal government is pleased to select RCom, based on technical evaluation process, to establish and operate the service delivery platform for rural areas of the state under the national e-governance project.
