Hewlett-Packard (HP) has announced the launch of the new Compaq Presario SR5000 series PCs in India.

The company said the Compaq Presario SR5000 series PCs have an enhanced new look, and are the perfect PCs that exude style and substance.

The latest series is defined by sleek, clean lines, and a cool modern Silver finish, and comprises new 17-inch Compaq-branded monitors with integrated speakers.

On this occasion, P Krishnakumar, Country Category Manager of Consumer Desktops, Personal Systems Group, HP India, said that the new range launched is after extensive consumer research to offer the best computing experience to users. The HP design team has combined design philosophy with fashion elements and consumer electronics trends to offer the ideal PCs for the modern home. The new range is set to redefine home computing.

The SR5000 PCs come with a 2.5-inch HP Pocket Media Drive Bay, which does not require additional power supply, and is supported by its 2-feed-USB 2.0 power and data sharing cable.

According to HP, SR5000 PCs' intuitive easy access design makes computing simpler and natural, with several user-friendly innovations. The new range breaks away from the traditional 'box' PC, and offers great features at an affordable price.

Meanwhile, the new range of SR5000 PCs that are available in 80GB and 120GB, for additional storage capacity, are priced between Rs 30,990 and Rs 37,490.

All these so called Branded PC Manufacturer(?) are nothing but a large scale assemblers doing assembling on very large scale with very huge margin. Do any one of them manufacture Processors / RAM...?. These PC are no different / better than an Assembled PC. Infact, the assembled PC crafted by an better component selection are far more superior than these so called branded pcs. eg. We can have a dual core PC with 1 GB RAM 667, 160 GB HDD, Internal Card Reader, Video Supporting decent gaming & Vista, 17" 1280 x 1024 native resolution LCD with built-in Speakers, HDTV output, High definition 8 Channel Audio, Optical Mouse, KB, 600 VA UPS, Attractive Cabinet, Computer Table ... all for just 25K. All components sourced from a non metro market (it will be much lesser in major cities). These so called manufacturers get components at almost half this price but "Assemble" it and sell it for nearly thrice its price. ... Next day warranty... who cares, for that Price I can have two more PC as standby.

Yes assembled laptop is very much there. Just search for it. There are all kind of wierd combinations like desktop components in a laptop chassis, and then there is HCL Nano which has laptop components to make an ultra SFF desktop.
