For those who were seeking a perfect VFM (Value for Money) laptop, a read through this may just end your search. The Compaq Presario V3228au is priced around what most people seek to buy a laptop. Some may remember another laptop model from Compaq called V3155au that seemed like a perfect marriage of price, performance, features and looks. But inexplicably it went out of production a few weeks back (or so everyone was told). For those who were looking to buy that but couldn't, we have some good news for you. The V3228au is nothing but a reincarnation of the V3155au. Read on to assure yourselves.

I am using this laptop since last 2 and half years, but yesterday i faced a severe problem like no display on screen, even when i pressed power on button there is no display, service center is saying graphics ic burned, need to be change n will cost around 5000/-, If IC is not available then motherboard is to be completely replaced, cost around 15000/- , Any solution ??

No Bluetooth Dude on this laptop. However, u can buy a cheap Bluetooth Adapter which can be connected to the computer via a USB port connection.

Worth for Money. The wide screen gives a pleasant look and feel. Left wrist pad heats up because of the hard disk directly below it. Will be a problem if you are using in room temperature. Need to upgrade to 1Gb or More ram if you want to run demanding applications. If you are considering using Linux, There are some issues with Bluetooth and Soundcard. But there are lots of workarounds available to fix this. The default windows vista and HP utils take up about 30 GB disk space. Not sure what it does.... Will have about 2hrs battery backup. Ideal for delicate use.

It doesn?t appear to affect the system in any way, yet it is still something that I wonder about . . .

Hi, I had compaq persario v3000(v3228) recently i formated my laptop and i also lost my drivers cd. Now i am able to install all the drivers except he for sound device. After going through various sites i found that for installing sound device i must have softpaq.exe but the problem is i am not able to find softpaq.exe anywhere. good config. i bought it for 31.3k in hyd. ships without a OS. but compaq does not provide drivers, untill you ask for it. the provided drivers(exe files) for audio and modem didn't worked. had to manually tell the program where the drivers is. dealer also told me that HP will send the webcam and headset which was free as a part of promotion. What he didn't told me that it was not applicable on this model and that if i had qualified i will have to send a draft of rs 300/- to get it. I don;t expect freebies but HP should educate it's dealers to be ethical when making a sale.

No xp drivers for this machine,so my dealer gave me a cd containing drivers for al previous compaq\HP models and askd me to do the trial and error method.The drivers for 3155au and another HPmodel worked with this infact installing the drivers for xp is a tedious part as the site contains only vista drivers.Quick Play button works only as a power button due to lack of quickplay software.The graphics memoy is shown as 256 mb

I did a lots of research for the drivers. This includes mail to customer care. The solution is pretty obvious but there is a big goofup on part of hp website guys. Just go to support and drivers of hp india website and search for "Compaq Presario V3000 CTO Notebook PC". Thats the primary model on which this one is built. Just ignore all intel drivers and the bios updates. Remember to install the MS audio architecture first and the sound drivers. Then things should work like a breeze.

I bought this lappy couple of months ago for 36k. This is the best bang for money lappy in india so far i guess. Killings look, decent performance and good audio as well. I wud say a must buy for someone looking forward to buy a basic lappy.

I BOUGHT THIS LAPTOP FROM COCHIN FOR 32,500/-.First of all as said in the review specs driver cd is not available.And the worst part is that the compaq website has drivers only available for WINDOWS VISTA. But the hardware is amazing at this price.It has the look and feel of high end machines. QuiKPlay Buttons are available but there is no software loaded.QuikPLay is a technology that makes the DVD play without loading windows but the software is not available even from compaq site.If u hav 10000/-more to spare go for dell (the price is 37,500 but wit taxes and freight charges crosses the 40000 limit ) with vista loaded.But never go for other cheap brands in the case of laptops. The v3223au is the best laptop available at this price but the lack of software is a big problem for the those who are not geeks and who dont know how to install a driver.

This will work for this model also. And amazingly for Win2000 Pro :) also. Just keep in mind that you need to install "Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) Bus Driver for High Definition Audio (sp33867)" first and then "Conexant High Definition Audio Driver (for AMD)". Other drivers can be installed in any order according to requirement.

One can consider Acer with better specs with just 1500 more. Has more HDD & web cam. HP gives freebies but they are known for not giving it for months together. I know more than 20-30 cases where one has to follow up with them.

Beware before buying an Acer Laptop. I have bought Acer TravelMate one and a half year back with price Rs 46,000/-. On the 4 th month, the LCD was damaged and had to be replaced under warranty. After the expiry of One year, motherboard also damaged. I had to shell out Rs 10,0000 for replacing. Now it shows the same complaint. The Service guys says the Mother board will cost Rs 20,000/- now and what i had replaced was under a buy back scheme. so the rplaced mother board has no guarantee.. So beware before buying an Acer. Product quality is very poor. Or else Go for 3 year warranty so that U can replace almost all parts in it :-)

The problem with these type of laptop is that the body is plastic.I know a guy who broke the display of a compaq laptop the replacement display costs Rs 17000/-,so better buy a more durable one with metallic body or handle these with care.

Ismail, i suggest u buy it from a genuine HP/compaq dealer from Baroda / Ahmedabad. The price (inclusive of VAT+Octroi) wud be approx 34500/-. Insist on driver CD for XP if u plan to install it. else u will hv a tough time....i am having a tough time locating some of the drivers..

Guys be very careful. review purposes hp might provide techtree with everything, but there is no driver cd, neither drivers are available for xp on the website. I also do not agree with the review about the finger prints part. hp has been considerate enough to provide with a cloth for cleaning purposes.
