This new service will enable consumers to make payment of all types of utility bills including landline phone, mobile, electricity, water, gas, insurance, internet, subscription to books and periodicals, donations, etc using the online BillDesk facility from iWays.
Speaking about this special initiative, Pijush Kanti Das, President of Access media, Sify said, "We are very pleased to be able to make utility payments easier and more convenient for consumers across the country. They no longer need to worry about standing in long queues or using credit cards. This initiative is a step further towards making Sify iWays complete eStores."
The process of the service requires customers to go to a Sify iWay with their bill, where the Sify cafe host inputs the bill and payment details and issues the customer an instant receipt confirming the bill payment. Then the Cafe host will collect money for the bill payments plus minimal service charges.
According to the company, although online bill payment services have been available in the country for over a decade now, their use is still limited due to lack of awareness of the online payment option, reluctance to use credit cards online or divulge bank information.
Sify believes that this tie-up with BillDesk will make this useful service available to the average Indian in a trouble free manner against cash payments.
Initially, the service will be launched in the top 7 metros which include Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Pune, followed by other cities in the later phase. The service will be available from morning to late evening on all seven days of the week.
