Riders in the Storm
The game play is Lost Planet's forte; it's at par with the best gaming action available in the market. It is a mix of action, adventure and some really challenging boss battles. The main aspect is killing bugs in mammoth numbers. I must have killed around two thousand Akrid bugs in the course of the game. But this isn't just mindless killing; there is a technique involved to kill each bug and that makes the carnage a little difficult. You see, most of the bugs contain the T-energy on their backs, which is visible in a bright red glow. So you need to attack every bug from the rear to kill him, which can leave you sweating at times. Every bug type has a unique attacking method, but every bug leaves you an opening for a brief moment. There are bugs that charge at you, while some will attack from a distance, you have to learn how to tackle them.

Wayne is quite agile, good with weapons and he can tackle most enemies with ease. You can pick up weaponry from dead soldiers and stack up to two weapons at a time. The machine gun is a must have and so is the shotgun. You can switch weapons with ease and there is enough ammo to be found. Also, you need to keep yourself stacked up with grenades as they are vital for your survival. There are different kinds of grenades, namely, stick grenades which are useful in taking down turrets. As the game functions in the third person mode, you can see all the minor details of the scenario as and when Wayne makes movements. Most of the game is based outside in the snow; the developers have made sure that you get a feel of combating in that milieu.
There are plenty of detailed elements to deal with in this game which you would learn to undertake gradually. An example I recall is: with reduced movement speed, it is difficult to avoid the charging Akrids. A solution to that is to hurl a grenade at them. If timed right, you can see the bug slide away from you on the snow.
