Virtual PC 2007 out of India Center

The Microsoft India Development Center (MIDC) has developed Microsoft Virtual PC 2007, which allows multiple Microsoft operating systems to run at the same time on the same computer.
The company said that a 20-member team developed Microsoft Virtual PC 2007, which is the latest in a series of major products shipped by MIDC in the last 18 months.
In a statement, Srini Koppolu, Vice President and Managing Director, MIDC, said that Virtual PC 2007, which supports all Microsoft operating systems only, is available for free download, and will continue to be free software, as it is a strategic technology for the company, and not meant for specific revenues.
Virtual PC 2007 also provides a time saving and cost saving solution anywhere users run multiple operating systems. According to Koppolu, it is of immense help to enterprises using multiple operating systems. It saves space, time, and cost without disrupting the Windows environment. Besides, virtualization will be a key opportunity in the next three to five years.
Koppolu added that support staff could run multiple operating systems on a single physical computer, and switch between them easily, while doing more in lesser time. Students can also be trained on multiple operating systems and virtual networks, instead of purchasing and supporting additional computers.
Amit Chatterjee, General Manager of the Windows Group, MIDC, explained that using Virtual PC, users can create separate virtual machines, each of which virtualizes the hardware of a complete physical computer. Users can also use virtual machines to run operating systems such as MS-DOS, Windows, OS/2, and several other x86-based operating systems.
It is also learnt that Virtual PC 2007 is optimized for Windows Vista, which means business customers could migrate to Windows Vista for a more secure and manageable experience, while keeping a previous Windows environment available to run legacy or custom applications in a virtual setting. And volume license customers running Windows Vista Enterprises edition are allowed to run up to four additional virtual instances of Windows on their PCs.
