Gaming and innovation go hand in hand, every new title brings something new to explore. But sadly these days the innovation is limited to a new gun or a sexy outfit on the babe featured in the game. This feature is a list of few games that I feel were really innovative, games that I felt made a difference and offered an experience that deserved kudos.
Indigo Prophecy
One of the most brilliantly crafted games of this generation, a game that will change your perception on gaming. The game was about a murderer, who committed the crime under the influence of sorcery. He is running away from the cops and seeking answers to his unwilling act. What's really brilliant is the fact that you play the convict and the cop as well, so in reality you are solving your own crime. But the game is designed in such a way that you know your act as the convict, but it's discreet enough for the cop to seek answers.
Let me elaborate, when you start the game you are stuck in a restroom with the victim besides you. You have to manually clear the crime scene, including hiding the murder weapon, washing your hands of blood and cleaning the floor. As the convict you know that you have hidden the weapon in the restroom, but the location is not revealed, shadowed by a cut-scene of a cop sitting outside in the restaurant. So as the cop you have to search the place and find the weapon. This aspect of hide and seek makes the game very engaging and entertaining, add to that cinema style action, drama and love making (You know what I mean). A must play for everyone for a different experience.
Half-Life: The Series
The best FPS in the history of gaming, the original Half-Life was an experience most gamers cherish till date. A game of unparalleled excellence and unmatched innovation, HL brought a new life to FPS games.
From the interactive environments to smart AI, amazing gameplay and a cinematic feel, Half-Life deserves the respect of every gamer in history. Half-Life had not one but many innovative ideas, from the story to the G-man, from the guns to the head crabs to Gordon Freeman, a surprise at every turn. After the huge success of Half-Life, the series continued to excel by delivering the same story from different perspectives. But HL was finally snatched of its crown of the best FPS game a few years back, by none other than its successor HL2. The Half-Life series remain the most innovative series ever.
