Close on the heels of Parallel's update to its Desktop for Mac virtualization software, VMware has released beta 2 of its Fusion for Mac virtualization software.
Fusion beta 2 features useful technologies, including 3D graphics support that allows users to play some DirectX 8.1 games on a virtual Windows XP machine.
Another new feature is "Rollback," which allows users to take a snapshot of their virtual machine configuration, and then return to that configuration at any point of time.
Beta 2 supports Microsoft Vista; Business, Enterprise, and Ultimate editions, with complete VMware tools support, including copy/paste functionality, drag-and-drop file support, shared folders, and screen resizing.
The beta offers 'experimental' support for Apple's new OS, Mac OS X 10.5, dubbed Leopard, scheduled for release later in 2007. It provides full support for AirPort networking, with seamless switching between wired and AirPort/Wi-Fi connections.
Featuring an improved ability to add virtual hard drives for more storage capacity, it can support up to 10 virtual network interfaces.
The VMWare Fusion beta 2 is available for free download on the company site, while the full public version is expected to be released later in 2007.
