Samsung Electronics has announced that it has increased the data transfer speed of the world's fastest graphics memory, GDDR4 (Graphics Double Data Rate, version 4) by two-thirds.
Developed using 80-nanometer production technology, the GDDR4 works at 4G bps (bits per second) (2.0GHz), which is 66 percent faster than the current fastest memory available that works at 2.4G bps.
The new 4G bps graphics memory, offered in 512 Mb densities, has a 32-bit data bus configuration. It uses JEDEC-approved standards for signal noise reduction to help attain the highest possible speed.
This latest development in GDDR4 transfer rate claimed by Samsung will help process video images in desktop PCs, notebooks, and workstations to move large volumes of high-definition or low-resolution video simultaneously.
Mueez Deen, Marketing Director of Graphics Memory, Samsung Semiconductor, said, "Our new GDDR4 memory will add even more zip in video applications, making gaming, computer-aided design, and video editing faster than ever before. This will enable ultra-smooth movements in animation, and make games incredibly realistic, resulting in a truly immersive user experience."
The company will begin offering samples of new GDDR4 chips to customers this month, while mass production will begin later this year.
