Features

The 2.5-inch LCD display on the Nikon S9 has a viewing angle of 170 degrees (both horizontally and vertically) and the button layout is similar to that of other S-series cameras. It wouldn't be too difficult to mistake one for the other considering the consistent design across all variants of the S-series.

The menu and options differ for most of the modes thus eliminating the need for more buttons. It also means that there is little or, at times, no room for customization for a particular shot.

The lens is a 3x Zoom-Nikkor ED with a range of 38-114mm (35mm equivalent.). That, coupled with 4x digital zoom gives the S9 a total 12x zoom capability.

The Nikon S9 also features Auto Image Rotation, which detects pictures that have been taken with the camera held vertically, automatically rotating them to suit in-camera LCD playback.

The built-in 24 MB of memory is more than that on the S5 and the S6 and can be really helpful.

With a selection of 15 Scene modes; 4 with Scene assist, the S9 allows users to get satisfying results, aided by clear focus and optimal exposure in almost all situations.
But, one should always keep in mind that the image quality largely depends on the correct selection of mode and scene settings by the user.

The handy One-touch portrait button makes it easier to achieve more satisfying shots by providing direct access to three Nikon image enhancement features. Face-priority AF can automatically detect and then achieve accurate focus on the person's faces, no matter where he/she is in the frame. In-Camera Red-Eye fix can automatically detect the annoying red-eye effect sometimes caused by flash and compensate for it in-camera. And the D-Lighting function can rescue underexposed images or shots with too much backlight by creating a copy of the image, but with light and detail added wherever necessary and well-exposed areas left exactly as they were.

Although it's not 100% correct, image sensors in the camera tell you when the clicked image is blurred a little too much. In case, the subject is a still object, one can always use the BSS (Best Shot Selector) that identifies and saves the sharpest shot automatically from ten sequential shots.

Three movie modes with sound are also available for capturing action at up to 30 fps. It also features Time-lapse movie shooting capability that allows dramatic results to be created out of slow-moving action for example, shooting a flower blooming, or a movie of clouds rushing across the sky.

For speeding up the process of searching recorded images in the camera is a Calendar function that automatically sorts images according to the date they were clicked.

The Coolpix S9 also features the COOL-STATION MV-15 that allows batteries to be recharged while they are still in the camera. It offers USB connectivity and can even be hooked up for TV display. The bundled PictureProject software makes editing pictures, organizing shots, and sharing images very simple and offers a range of plug-ins for image editing.

coz the review has been sourced from JJMehta itself. Well, I am using the camera for last 3 years....It just works gr8 in day light, however in dark and indoors though there is noise but if u play with the modes a bit then there are ways to help you.....downside, many times pics in dark with flash or indoors with flash get blurry....

This camera takes awful, blurry pictures in almost every conceivable situation. I am a surgeon, and my hands do not shake *at all* - yet this problem still manifests in nearly every photo. The photos it does manage to take without blurring usually look awful because of the ridiculously harsh yet astoundingly ineffective built-in flash. 9 out of 10 shots are bad. Nikon's cameras have been nothing but disappointing lately. Sad, as I've been a loyal customer for years, but will not be coming back.

This is the worst camera review I have seen or read. Wake up TT. Just check the review in Dpreview or Steves digicams and you will know what to test and how the camera works. You seriously have to review this product again. This is one of the best cameras...canon sucks infront of this

Hello, I have used this camera for my marriage ceremonies and for my honeymoon pics. I was initially confused due to indoor shots appearing so blurry. But then I read in the manual that such a thing is expected, solution is to turn on the flash for indoor (aka low light) pics. With the flash on, every single pic was crisp and detailed. Which is why I don't agree with your cons.

truth be told until anyone comes up with something like DIGIC-II, canon will just rule in consumer category. Also now there are unbeatable even on the price front

I see the same sample images over and over again for all digicams, grow up TT. Where is the color test, macro test, night shot etc. Even if the camera sucks, atleast some decent test photos should be posted. Very sad!
