Joining existing ranks of Cisco, Dell, IBM, and Sun Microsystems, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) is now setting up its Dev Central Pavilion in the virtual world of Second Life.

Located on Dev Central Island in Second Life, AMD's Dev Central Pavilion is meant to help the company extend its developer outreach program into virtual space for lectures, training programs, meetings, and networking opportunities for developers.

Broadly, the Pavilion comprises an auditorium for technology related chats amongst residents, and a display hall featuring interactive booths, banners, and streaming videos.

Apart from this, AMD is also sponsoring a three-month treasure hunt for residents of Second Life, wherein participants will get to use the highly interactive Linden scripting language as well as open source programming, in a bid to win the grand prize i.e. a Dell Dimension E521 Personal Computer.

Speaking about the initiative, Paul Nolte, AMD Project Manager and Contributing Builder for AMD Developer Central Second Life Pavilion, said that the Second Life metaverse is a gathering place for both new and established developers, and that through the interactive virtual experience at the Pavilion, AMD hopes to provide developers with an outlet to learn and grow.

All developers may please note that the first event at the AMD Dev Central Pavilion is scheduled to take place on Sunday, Feb 25, 2007, with members of the SL Open Source Movement designated to speak about challenges and opportunities presented by an Open Second Life.
