Adobe has released a major upgrade to Adobe RoboHelp, "Adobe RoboHelp 6", a flexible user-friendly system to create, manage, and publish software help systems, knowledge bases, and documentation for desktop and Web-based applications.

According to the company, RoboHelp 6 provides all the desktop functionality that authors need to create advanced help content such as table of contents, index, glossary, graphics, special effects, and context-sensitive help. The software is compatible with most formats, and leverages the benefits of other Adobe products, thus providing a richer experience.

Adobe RoboHelp 6 also integrates Adobe Captivate 2 for improved workflow and more engaging content with simulations and demonstrations.

RoboHelp 6 gives users more choices to create and publish content. They can import content created in Microsoft Word, Adobe FrameMaker, Adobe PDF, XML, and other help formats, and then publish the content in popular help formats like FlashHelp, WebHelp, HTML help, WinHelp, HTML, JavaHelp, OracleHelp for Java, etc.

The upgrade makes for greater control over table of contents. With User Defined Variables, it allows changes to be made just once but seen everywhere in Help. The updated Adobe RoboSource Control provides a unique source document and version control system for Windows and Web development for both individual and collective users.

Another feature of the upgrade is Adobe PDF creation, which generates support for hyperlinks and bookmarks, enabling accessible PDFs. Thanks to the built-in RoboScreenCapture, there is no need for a separate application to create and edit screen shots.

Adobe has also introduced the RoboHelp Server 6 with powerful server features that ensure the delivery of up-to-date online content, with real-time tracking of how end-users interact with the help system. The product has been completely engineered out of the India, and will be shipped globally.

RoboHelp Server 6 extends and supports the capabilities of RoboHelp 6 to provide a complete online help and knowledge base solution. With the two products, authors can easily deploy and manage up-to-date online content; control and monitor the use of Web-based help systems in real time through a new Web-based remote interface; as also develop help systems for use with the Microsoft.NET Framework.

RoboHelp 6 and RoboHelp 6 Server are available for Windows 2000 and Windows XP, while Vista compatibility will be added sometime this year.

The estimated street price for RoboHelp 6 and RoboHelp 6 Server is $999 (Rs 44,220) and $1999 (Rs 88,485) respectively.

For users of RoboHelp and RoboInfo, Adobe RoboHelp 6 and RoboHelp Server 6 are available at an estimated street price of $499 (Rs 22,088) and $999 (Rs 44,220) respectively.
