The much anticipated 2007 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) kicked off at Las Vegas on Jan 8, and will run through Jan 11. This year, the show celebrates its 40th anniversary.

With a net exhibit space of 1.8 million square feet and around 2,700 exhibitors showcasing their products, the CES 2007 promises to be the hottest technology event of the year.

The pre-show event, 'CES Unveiled', took place on Saturday evening at the Sands Expo and Convention Center or The Venetian (Las Vegas) with nearly 60 exhibitors, who unveiled their latest products in GPS, digital imaging, audio, home theater, and other such.

The buzz continued through Sunday morning, when the Venetian hosted conferences by about 13 exhibitors, including LG, Pioneer, Philips, Toshiba, Sharp, and Panasonic who announced new products/technologies.

On the night of Sunday, Microsoft Chief Founder and Chairman, Bill Gates, made his tenth keynote appearance.

Gates spoke about how the comany is delivering on its promise of the 'Connected Experience'. Dubbing Windows Vista the most important release of Windows ever, Gates asserted that Vista would make it easier, safer, and more fun to use the PC.

Significantly, Gates previewed the new Windows Home Server and new PCs from multiple manufacturers, all powered by Windows Vista.

Further, Microsoft President of Entertainment Devices, Robbie Bach, introduced advancements in music, mobile phones, gaming, and television; in other words, 'Connected Entertainment'.

Ford Motor's Mark Fields joined Bill Gates in his final announcement:
that of the Microsoft-Ford 'Sync' alliance that promises to extend the 'connected experience' to the car.

With Microsoft's 'Sync' auto software, devices can be connected into and out of vehicles, allowing consumers to sync calls and other content with their car audio systems. The fully upgradeable 'Sync' technology is slated to be available in about a dozen Ford car models this year.

The ongoing 2007 International Consumer Electronics Show features a 'show floor' spanning across the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC), the Sands Expo and Convention Center/The Venetian, and the Las Vegas Hilton.

With over 20 market-specific TechZones, the 'show floor' is all set to showcase the latest products and technologies in more than 30 product categories, including digital imaging, home networking, IPTV, mobile electronics, gaming, et al.
