It's time to honor the year's best games; the ones that stood out; the ones that were looked upon; the games that hence-forth will be known as "Techtree Game of The Year 2006." This time we look at PC games, with some really big titles releasing this year. But honestly, I was a little disappointed this year; there were excellent titles but something was amiss. Then again, let's not be cynical here; let's look at the various games in each category and their respective winners.
Genre: FPS
Nominations:
Prey
At the core, Prey is like any other FPS, but a few innovative aspects make it a unique experience. There are gameplay elements here that are truly 2006; a good twist to the regular FPS experience. Prey starts off with Tommy, a Cherokee by birth, who is planning his future with his girlfriend. Seems too bland a plot for an FPS until an alien invasion spoils his party. What follows next is Tommy's struggle to save his girl from blood-sucking aliens; talk about a test of true love.

The game is fast, engaging, and indulges in mass bloodshed. Sadists will particularly like ripping the heads of innocent and undressed civilians abducted by the aliens. Although the game received mixed reviews, I believe this is a far better effort than the rest of the lot.
