Interview with Country Manager (India) of Kingston
Techtree spoke to Rajesh Panicker, Country Manager (India) of Kingston about the company and its various initiatives. Here's presenting the discussion in brief:

What is the aim behind Kingston's recent online initiative, 'knowyourmemory.com'?
The aim is to make people understand current and future memory trends, what type of memory technologies are in place today, and how does one select memory for a PC, laptop, server.

Could you please elaborate on 'knowyourmemory.com'
This online portal is a first of its kind initiative in India that offers a unique platform for digital lifestyle enthusiasts to learn more about the latest developments in memory technologies, and their impact on digital products and technologies.

The portal will help consumers know the different types of memory available on the market, what type of memory should be used, what should they look out for while buying memory, etc.

Apparently, there is a 'discussion forum' on the portal. Please tell us about it.
The 'discussion forum' is for anybody to start a trade on any of the topics related to memory. On this forum, we invite people to discuss digital lifestyle issues and memory related technical and support queries with us.

Why 'HyperX Challenge' on the portal?
It's to create enthusiasm for the memory which is at the top of our range. It's just one way of promoting our HyperX brand, and get people to know more about our portal.

What is Kingston's USP?
Kingston's USP is the quality of RAM we offer at aggressive price points. Besides, our local support and service and marketing and other programs help us keep our number one position in the market.

With less than 10 percent of the market, and rival brands that are more easily available, how do you plan to leverage the Kingston brand?
Yes, we have less than 10 percent of the market, and we have started just six months back. But throughout 2007, we plan to give a tough lead to the competition in terms of pricing and local products.

We intend to focus on realigning our distribution strategy, which will be put in place from Q1 of 2007. This will enable not only metros but also B and C cities of the country to avail Kingston memory products.

What about flash memory?
For flash memory products, we are in talks with major players who deal with mobile phones, cameras, etc, as also with some of the biggest retail chains.

What is the road ahead for Kingston?
The next big thing is the Q1 announcement of our distribution strategy, accompanied by a round of marketing programs that will include kickbacks for customers.
