Dopod in India with Three Handsets

Dopod Communication has now officially entered the Indian market with the unveiling of three new handset models namely; C720W, C800, and 818Pro.

In addition, C720W features the Qwerty keypad with 5-way navigation and 3-way touch pad. It comes with the built-in memory of 128 MB ROM and 64 MB RAM.

The Dopod C800 is the slimmest PDA phone with slide-out QWERTY Keyboard. Targeting trendy executives and professionals this handset features a semi-automatic sliding keypad. It features a 2.0 megapixel CMOS camera, and the screen display with 71.1mm, QVGA resolution 240 x 320 pixels.

The handset weighing 168g and measuring 109mm (L) x 59mm (W) x 17mm (T) has the standby time of up to 200 hours and talk time up to of 5 hours. It comes with a built-in memory of 128 MB ROM and 64 MB RAM.

The two phones C720W and C800 come with an additional Micro-SD memory slot are bundled with a number of applications such as Microsoft Office, PDF, Internet Explorer (IE) Mobile, Windows Media Player, Outlook Mobile, PocketMSN, Activesync, Comm Manager, Internet Sharing, Network Wizard, RSS News Reader, and Cyberon Voice Commander.

The Dopod 818 Pro is a light, small, and futuristic device with lifestyle design and enhanced features. This GSM Quad Band PDA phone enables users to communicate by voice anywhere across the globe. It is a sleek handset with 71.1mm, 65,536-color TFT display touch-screen.

Moreover, it has a 2-megapixel built-in camera with macro built to handle and capture both still images and video. It also supports MP3 playback and WAV files, thus giving access to music while on the move. The handset has a stand by time of up to 150 hours and talk time of 3.5 to 4 hours

In addition, the 818Pro also comes bundled with the WorldCard Mobile Business Card Capture Solution software, which enables users to take a picture of a business card with the intelligent software and all their contacts are instantly captured, recognised, sorted, and stored. The other applications bundled with this handset include Pocket Outlook, Windows Media Player, MSN messenger, IE Mobile, Microsoft ActiveSync, games, calculator, wireless modem, photo contact/ caller ID, and audio recorder.

All the three handset from Dopod run on Windows Mobile 5.0 operating system and support Bluetooth and UBS connectivity, as well as provides GSM Quadband with GPRS and EDGE and hi-speed WLAN access 802.11g.

The distribution of its handsets models in India would be done by Jaina Marketing & Associates. In addition, Dopod will also initiate discussions with leading operators in the market. In the first phase Dopod International plans to make its handsets available in 10 cities - Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkatta, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pune, Ahemdabad, Surat, and Chandigarh initially, and there are plans to increase to 25 cities within 2007."

The Dopod C720W, C800 and 818 Pro will be commercially available in the market in January 2007 at a price of Rs 30677, Rs 45101, and Rs 32184.

Further sharing his view on the existing competition, Sharma said, "After our phenomenal success in the Asia Pacific region we have taken a giant leap to cater to the needs of the Indian market. Our main focus would largely be on providing world class converged devices along with our partners. We believe that all our products come with unique USP and this would be a key differentiator from other models prevailing in the market currently."
