Let's take a look at a high mid-range offering from the Nvidia stables; the XFX 7900 GS. Let's see how it performs.

Good performance, Robust build quality, Good overclocker, Fair headroom for future games.

    Scanty bundle, Bit expensive.

In the last few months, the graphic card segment has seen some major development. Both ATi and Nvidia have come up with some really good cards that give you awesome performance. In fact, so much has been the influx of new technology, methods, and models of graphic cards that it's really tricky to choose one to buy. But the best part is there's a card for every kinda budget.

Today, let's take a look at a high mid-range offering from the Nvidia stables; the XFX 7900 GS. Let's see how it performs.

Specifications

The Card

Following the reference design, the XFX 7900 GS takes only a single slot and has the 90 nanometer fabrication process. The card is SLI ready and has two DVI, an S-Video connector, and sports a classy-looking copper heat sink with shiny black canopy and a small fan to rid the GPU of all the heat. Since the GPU and memory are very well covered by the HSF, we were expecting some good amount of overclocking performance.

The 7900 GS requires extra power supply to be connected, thus pushing up the SMPS rating for the comp. The GPU is clocked at 480 MHz by default with the memory being set at 700 MHz. The card comes with a 1.4ns Hynix GDDR3 HY5RS573225A series that can comfortably go up to 1428 MHz.

The XFX 7900 GS features Adaptable Programmable Video Processor (PureVideo), Integrated HDTV Encoder that provides TV-out functionality up to 1080i resolution, CineFX 4.0 Engine, Digital Vibrance Control (DVC) 3.0, Intellisample 4.0, UltraShadow II Technology, Video Color Correction, and High-Definition H.264, MPEG-2 and WMV Hardware Acceleration2.
