Seems, the very same feature that earned the Nintendo Wii its accolades is now earning brickbats nonetheless for the gaming console...

The Wii's television remote-shaped, wireless, motion-sensing controller, nicknamed "Wiimote" by fans of Nintendo, and said to add significant value to game play, has now come under scathing fire for its propensity to fly out of gamers' hands - without warning - thanks to a defective wrist strap.

The Wiimote, as it is fondly called, is secured to gamers' hands by means of a Wii strap, which is simply put - a standard loop of cloth attached to the base of the controller by a thin cord.

However, several reports are doing the rounds that this cord tends to break, sending the Wiimote flying out of the gamer's hands, and into consumer electronics and any other object 'in the way' including unsuspecting bystanders.

Gamers have gone to the extent of uploading videos depicting people losing their Wiimotes while playing. One such Web site, called Wiihaveaproblem.com, is, in fact, dedicated to 'faithful accounts' of Wiimote related damage, the usual suspects being beer glasses, televisions, laptops, and audio equipment.

On its part, Nintendo has acknowledged the problem. Nintendo President, Satoru Iwata, said they are investigating the problem, but that some people are getting a lot more excited than the company had expected. Iwata said they need to better communicate to people how to deal with Wii as a new form of entertainment.

While Nintendo has not yet responded to repeated requests for replacing the broken Wii straps, it sure has a word of caution for all Wii users: "Hold the remote securely, and avoid excessive motion during game play. If your hands become moist; stop, and dry your hands."

Besides, the company advises players to stay at least 3 feet away from the TV, and, to make sure people and objects are safely outside their range of motion.

Silly Wiimote tossers! Tricks are for kids! But seriously learn to control yourselves and it will probably work as intended.

Trust a few stupid idiots to try and ruin the fun, ur not supposed to let go of it, as for the wrist strap its only a stop gap measure it would never stop the wiimote all the time, nintendo expects people to have at least a little common sense and self control, obviously they were wrong from what has been posted lately on the net
