Nokia India has announced that Grammy Award winner Nelly Furtado will rock the nation at the upcoming "Nokia New Year's Eve" on Dec 31, 2006 at the Andheri Sports Complex in Mumbai.
"Nokia New Year's Eve" will be a musical extravaganza of global proportions, traversing from East to West, panning across four continents, kicking off at Ocean Terminal in Hong Kong, taking a breather at Mumbai's Andheri Stadium, and then at Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, through Ipanema Beach in Rio de Janeiro, finally calling it a year in New York.
In what promises to be the biggest and hippest New Year Party, the five events are expected to witness a combined attendance of nearly 1.3 million, with a global television and Internet audience of around 150 million to boot.
In Mumbai, the Grammy Award winner for 'Best Pop/Rock Artist of the Year' will perform songs from her latest album, "Loose". Accompanying her on stage will be the Canadian band, 'Josh Desi' who were instrumental in remixing her popular single, 'Powerless'.
Nelly Furtado is a Canadian singer-songwriter, instrumentalist, and record producer of Portuguese descent. Her 2000 debut album, 'Whoa, Nelly!' featuring Grammy Award winning singles, 'I'm like a Bird' and 'Turn off the Light' catapulted her into the limelight. Since then, the versatile artist has released other albums, 'Folklore' in 2003, followed by 'Loose' this year. Musical Eclecticism seems to be Furtado's forte - for her music is a blend of different intruments, genres, languages, and vocal styles.
Commenting on bringing Nelly Furtado to town, Devinder Kishore, Director Marketing of Nokia India, said, "Living up to our promise of 'Connecting People', Nokia New Year's Eve aims to connect millions of people from around the world through music and mobility. We are pleased to bring Grammy Award winner Nelly Furtado - to Mumbai, and give music lovers in India an opportunity to see their favorite artist in person."
"Nelly promises to be the right choice for the Indian music enthusiast, with her popular desi sountracks such as 'Powerless' and others. I am sure Nelly will have people dancing on their toes all night long!," Kishore added.
"Nokia New Year's Eve" will be graced by international artists the likes of 'Black Eyed Peas' in Rio de Janeiro, and 'Scissor Sisters' in Berlin.
