Today, we will be looking at phones that are entry level. These phones are priced below the Rs. 5,000 price tag. We will list a few of them that are really what one should consider with a budget of just 5K. The phones listed will be the ones that can provide you with the best that can be offered at that price. The phones can be of various kinds and none can stand out as the best. Some may provide the best there is to battery life while few others will provide a good set of features that one would look forward to while buying a phone above the 5K price range. We will glance at the phones of various phone manufacturers according to their international market standings.
Nokia
Nokia leads the pack of phone manufacturers and as you will see they not only cater to the high end market but also look to take up significant share of the mobile markets in developing countries. Nokia has the most number of cell-phones that will feature in this article. Even though they have the highest market share, the other phone manufacturers are not far from behind and sooner or later will catch up.
Nokia 1110i (Rs. 2100)
The ever-so-popular 3310 could never get out of the minds of the people at least in India. Hence, with advancing in technology, Nokia provides us the 1110i, which like the 3310 provides the very basic of mobile phones. This phone is light and has a monochrome screen. The phone is powered by a Li-Ion 900 mAh battery, which in turn provides the end-user with the best battery life.
I'll give you an example of a phone with a 900mAh battery to make things even more clear. The Walkman phones from Sony Ericsson or for that matter the N-Series phones from Nokia itself are bundled with this rating of a battery. Here, the same battery makes the phone work to more than 5.5 hours of talktime and a standby of about two weeks.
Nokia 1600 (Rs. 2600)
The Nokia 1600 is another from the basic models of Nokia; absolutely meant for India market. The Nokia 1600 is one with a CSTN color screen and even this one also holds a 900 mAh battery. Even though the screen is a bit cramped, the display still remains smooth. The phone has a 4 MB of internal memory to hold wallpapers, themes, ringtones, and games.
It comes pre-loaded with 3 games. It supports polyphonic ringtones and has a composer to make your own sweet ringtone. The phone even has speaking alarm to wake you up. It has a powerful battery life offering the same amount of talktime and standby time just like the 1110i. Another great handset to buy if you want to stick to basics and nothing more.
