Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) is reportedly coming up with a new line of processors that consume less power.
These new processors will be made by shrinking the AMD Athlon 64 FX chips used inside desktop computers. The new chips will be manufactured using just a 65 nanometers wide circuitry. Presently, the chips come in a standard size of 90 nanometers.
According to AMD, the new manufacturing technique is a step towards offering healthy competition to rival Intel. Intel has been using an advanced chip manufacturing process for the past one year. Hence, this move is being seen as an attempt at bridging the manufacturing gap between the two companies.
Besides, shrinking of the chips would make them run even faster, while consuming up to 30 percent less energy than earlier versions. Further, the new generation manufacturing process would let chipmakers produce a larger number of chips from a single slice of Silicon.
The new chips will be available in the next couple of weeks, at prices starting $169 (Rs 7,605) or $301 (Rs 13,545), depending on the speed.
The company plans to convert over half of its desktop chips to the 65-nanometer ones during the first quarter of 2007, and the rest by mid 2007. There are also plans to transition mobile and server chips to the 65 nanometer process, beginning first half of 2007.
Not really, until the launch of Intel's Core 2 Duo, AMD's Athlon FX Series really dominated in the Performance Market, the only thing is that Intel spends heavily in Research and development. But you should give credit to AMD for building Athlon Series of Processors specially when Intel was struggling with heating Problems with it's Presscott's Range of Processors. Give AMD some time, also AMD's tie up with ATI will definitely revolutionize the Graphics market. No doubt the chipset made by NVidia and ATI will always be ahead of Intel's Chipsets in Motherboards specially with their SLi and Crossfire Technology.
intel rules. AMD is studying the rules...
Intel: Best Technology developer
AMD: Best utilizer of available Technology
And Other point.
Best motherboard:Intel
Best processor:AMD
Hey, We cannot Mix them together.
Ok,
Currently.Intel Is the best
Amd Lost its crown due to the launch of core 2 duo..
Another point..
in short..
Nothing is good...
Go to hell...
JUST WAIT 3 YEARS...AMD AND LINUX WILL RULE-INTEL AND THE MONOPOLIST MICROSOFT WILL BE HISTORY..!!!NO MATTER HOW MANY -CORES INTEL OFFERS, THE FUTURE BELONGS TO AMD NOT INTEL.INTEL MAY BE AT THE TOP FOR A MOMENT BUT WILL BE SYSTEMATICALLY EXTERMINATED IN THE FUTURE BY AMD-JUST 3 YEARS TO GO.........
It's wise to remeber that AMDs chip technology is developed inpartnershipwith IBM, who has routinely delivered faster chips than Intel at the same feature size.
