Microsoft India today announced business availability of the Windows Vista OS, the 2007 Microsoft Office system, and Exchange Server 2007.
In a historic product launch, Microsoft India today announced business availability of the much awaited Windows Vista operating system, the 2007 Microsoft Office system, and Exchange Server 2007. Beginning today, Windows Vista and 2007 Microsoft Office will be available to volume licensing customers.
While the 'New Windows' and 2007 Microsoft Office will be released to consumers and organizations that are sans volume license agreements on Jan 30, 2007; Exchange Server 2007 is on track for release to organizations with volume license agreements by December second week.
The launch is significant because it represents the first simultaneous release of Microsoft flagship products since the joint launch of Windows 95 and Office 95 over a decade ago.
Besides, Vista, earlier code-named Longhorn, is the first major upgrade in over five years to the Windows operating system, the base of a majority of the world's personal computers.
Commenting on the unprecedented collaboration between Microsoft and its customers that went into this iconic launch, Neelam Dhawan, Managing Director of Microsoft India, said, "These products deliver game-changing innovation. We've made extraordinary investments in research and development, and Windows Vista, the 2007 Office system, and Exchange Server have been tested more thoroughly than any other software product in history."
"In India there has been an overwhelming response from both customers and partners, with over 350,000 Office 2007 Beta 2 CDs and 500,000 Windows Vista Beta 2 CDs accessed so far. We are really excited by the response this platform has elicited, and are confident of its impact on the business environment in India," Dhawan said.
What's most anticipated in the new products is their advancements in graphics, the pervasive support for XML, not to mention Vista's splashy graphics including 3-D icons and folders with transparent glass effects.
The product triplet focuses on critical areas such as: simplifying how people work together; enhancing the whole business of finding and using information through deep platform integration and powerful new search technologies; improving content protection/management via advanced content management and document retention tools; enhancing overall security with breakthrough security features; and reducing IT costs substantially.
The most awaited Windows Vista OS searches for files, photos, and video clips over the PC's drive, Outlook, the Internet, and an internal corporate network. With a Flip 3D option, users can flip through folders on their screens, just like playing cards.
Photo galleries are included, which allow users easily search, edit, and print photos. There are simple instructions offered for burning photos onto DVDs.
Placing greater emphasis on laptop security and collaborative tools, Vista includes Windows BitLocker, which encrypts, or scrambles data on the computer's hard drive, thereby making it very difficult to read in the event a laptop is stolen or misplaced. Besides, there are more restrictive firewalls and other new tools to block spyware and phishing.
A new feature in Internet Explorer 7 offers users three levels of warning about potential phishing sites. The browser runs what is called a 'protected mode', which shoves aside a malicious program trying to invade a user's PC.
Dhawan said, "During the last decade, Windows 95 and Office 95 transformed the way people work. These three new products announced today are the most advanced work that Microsoft has ever done, and I believe they signal the beginning of a new wave of innovation that will have an even more profound impact during the next decade."
As sources within Microsoft put it, Vista is geared towards making it easier to find what you need in the boatloads of information available in the digital age. It's geared towards collaborating across borders on projects. And - it's more secure than its forebearers.
But wat exactly is both new and useful here???I mean i have seen the transparent folder options..not at all useful..and the useful features like search and image manager etc are already provided free by google....So why should one go for it...
