Netgear Unveils Skype Phone

Netgear has launched the Netgear Wi-Fi phone (SPH101) for Skype users in India.
The company says that the SPH101 Wi-Fi phone is the first publicly announced device certified to make Skype Wi-Fi Internet calling a reality for the more than 113 million registered Skype users making unlimited free domestic and international calls to other Skype users over a wireless network without being tied to a computer.
It is also learnt that this Wi-Fi phone will work anywhere in the world. A user is just required to have access to a Wi-Fi network in any home, office, public hotspot, or municipal wireless access point that does not require browser-based authentication.
Talking about the phone, Sanjay Aggarwal, Senior Business Manager of Rashi Peripherals, said the Netgear SPH101 Wi-Fi phone is the ideal solution for die-hard Skype users who are now able to take advantage of Netgear innovative wireless networking technology, and experience Skype in a truly mobile fashion, without a PC. When Skype users use this phone, they will appreciate the extra effort Netgear took to achieve an outstanding audio and visual experience.
The SPH101 Wi-Fi phone for Skype has a host of other features that include managing contact lists and displaying who is available to talk; forwarding calls to mobile and landline phones or to another Skype user name (with SkypeOut); TFT screens offering extra clarity of vibrant, colorful text; outstanding sound quality; wireless security through WEP and WPA-PSK; compatibility with 802.11b/g Wi-Fi standards; and software updates achieved wirelessly, without requiring a USB cable.
Meanwhile, the Netgear Wi-Fi phone for Skype, which comes at a maximum retail price (MRP) of Rs 16,900, is now available at the 48 Rashi branches all over India. It is also backed by a one-year warranty and 24x7 technical support through its call center.
