HCL has earned itself a good name in enterprise solution development. Though, it's not a major into retail distribution of PC, it has built some of the most cost effective PCs. Today, it is targeting a new segment, i.e. gaming. Gaming PC originated in US with companies such as Alienware and Voodoo specializing in making high performance PCs. None of such companies still have a presence in India, due to low demand for their products. This is where HCL seems to be an entrant fishing for upcoming opportunities.

The HCL Beanstalk Game Master Ultimate PC has been designed to be feature-rich as well as one giving high performance. Equipped with the fastest processor from Intel, Core 2 Extreme 6800, 2 x NVIDIA Geforce 7900GT GPUs in SLI mode, 2 * 1 GB DDR2 667 MHz RAM on a Nvidia nForce 590i chipset platform, it is easily speculated that this is one hell of a PC configuration. While, some people may argue that it could have gone for a better graphic card, the 7900 GT has been installed with a purpose. As aforementioned, this is also supposed to be a feature-rich PC. Hence, they have included a modem, TV tuner card, game port, various card readers, etc. All this could not have possibly been included had they opted for a powerful graphic card that will occupy two slots at the back and also cover certain PCI slots leaving them useless.

The HCL Beanstalk Game Master Ultimate PC comes in a complete package with a 19" WS TFT LCD monitor, Multimedia keyboard, speakers, remote, headphones with mic, etc. But, we just received the main component, i.e. the core components inside the sexy looking cabinet. So, our review will be limited only to the core components, but at the end of the day, these things make up for major cost of the machine.

at 1.49 lacs, HCL Beanstalk Ultimate could have done better with cheaper and more powerful components. There is absolutely no need for a Rs. 50,000 Core 2 Extreme Processor when an almost similarly powerful processor (core i5 750) can be had for around less than Rs 15,000. I also believe that instead of putting 2 relatively useless cards in SLI, HCL could have straight away put a 9800 GTX+ or even a GTX 260 both of which come in the Rs 10,000-15,000 range and are more powerful. All in all with the correct market research, a more POWERFUL system (gaming/multimedia) can be built for almost half the price. Here is a suggested configuration: Monitor : Branded 19 inch : Rs 12000 SLI motherboard: Rs 9,000 Nvidia Geforce GTX 260 : Rs 15,000 Corsair PSU: Rs 4000 4GB DDR2 RAM : Rs 3000 Intel Core i5 750 : Rs 15000 Keyboard, Mouse etc : Rs 1500 Speakers: Rs 4000 Total ~ Rs 65000 (more powerful, half the price)

you bloody Illiterate dumbf***s know nothing although the price is quite high <the processor should not be that fast and 4 gb sd ram and a blue ray burner which would satisfy both great storage capabilities and fast machine graphics should have being Nvidia 8800 GTX and and the latest intel motherboard would make it rocking and two 300 gb Hard drives and Viewsonic 20 " lcd or Dell's awesome 22' or the top of the line from samsung and benq 24"

Guys go to the nearest shop and have a look on it . Its like frustrated people are commenting on this product. Thats why Indian people never shine , always think negative and think some one is cheating as we do it ourself.

Decent enough PC,,but as always is the case with Indian system sellers. They always skimp on something. Only 1GB RAM??? With Windows Vista just 2 months away this PC will be obsolete in 2 months. Atleast they should have given 2GB RAM. and 160GB is sorely inadequate. As always,,a knowledged buyer can make an assembled system much better than this.

" 2 * 1 GB DDR2 667 MHz RAM on a Nvidia nForce 590i chipset platform," <----- it says 2 * 1 GB ram modules... thats a total of 2 GB... have to agree that the HDD is inadequate tho... and of course one can anyday assemble a better comp than this beauty.

Very nice step for ppl who wanna buy gaming pcs but dont wann get it assembled .way to go,dx 10 would only make this more expensive, the costing of video cards in india never seem to go down even when its too old.still @ 149000,this is pretty expensive, but every way worth it.u cant get these parts so easily + they are always expensive bcoz of low sales.

this might seem bit off track but something "someone from somewhere" said that really caught my attention..why wont the price of video cards go down like the rest of the components???!!?? or does it...? do you guys want to start a thread about great cards whose price have gone down amking it more affordable? i think its an eligible topic? please comment

In typical Punjabi i would say-Desi Baandri Valaiti Cheekaan Marey!!(Indian singer trying to emulate a foreign Pop Artist!).This is what HCL stands for.HCL doesn't sell-or is not able to sell PC's in US or other developed countries,so in desperation is trying to do it in the 3rd world indian market, where a Super PC can be assembled with less than 1/3 rd of this PC's price.HCL people think they are equivalent to DELL,USA!!!

Buy a Plasma TV + Xbox 360 instead! I hope HCL sells anything more than 10 numbers all over india! Its just a marketing Gimmick. HCL traditionally makes the worst quality PC's in India!

I think the cooments are way too negative. Even if you assemble this PC you will never get it for 70-80k. When the 6800 in Indian Market itself costs more than 50k.

Gaming PC my A*
,Gaming World, on Nov 28, 2006 02:06 AM
Ever wondered why PCs like these dont sell in India .... its because people here are more clever by half !! This kind of crap needs to be sold to "son of rich dad" types (especially in the US where the dad is also probably low IQ). When we see a gamin PC like this we look at ratings and FPS of various games at various resolutions. Tell me have you had a survey of what resolutions most games get played at ? The nerds i know play at 800/600 cause they are more interested in gameplay rather than that minute nail on the wall (only visible at 3000 by 2000 pixels !!). I can only wish HCL good luck. If they ever went with this PC to Nehru place in Delhi they would probably be put on a donkey and paraded. As for the prices of indivual components ... well indians have this amazing knack of being the economists. We dont buy stuff on day one when we know that on day seven they are gonna sell dirt cheap.

nothing more than about 75-80K for this! most of this stuff can be bought off the market at better prices (barring the CPU, perhaps!)

I'm on page two, and the cabinet, which seems to have been designed by a mentally unstable blind person wearing the darkest of glasses he could lay his hands upon, prompted me to press the <back> button hastily in retreat...

One doesnt actually need that much speed, bcos hes not catching any next shuttle to the space., when assembled We can reduce the price upto 30,000.. and also those cards are not even Dx 10 compatible for the next generation games.. still to come..So could go for 8800Gt
