Toshiba has announced the latest addition to its high capacity SDHC memory cards; the SD-HC008, which is touted as the industry's first 8 Gigabyte (GB) Class 4 memory card.
Class 4 is the SD (Secure Digital) Speed Class that requires high speed writing of at least 4MB per second, up to 6MB per second.
With this, Toshiba has become the first company to announce the launch of a Class 4 8GB SDHC memory card.
According to the company, the card is based on the SD Card Association's SD Specifications Ver2.00 that defines high capacity, high performance enhancements to market-leading SD memory cards. The new card also meets the Class 4 standard, a speed standard that requires a data write speed of at least 4GB/second.
The company is expecting a wide application of SDHC Memory Cards in the digital video and still camera market.
Some of the key features of SD-HC008 include support for video images and high resolution still images, and recording of maximum 3 hours 10 minutes of standard definition video in the MPEG2 format.
The Toshiba 8 GB SDHC memory card is scheduled for availability in December.
