After the success in the gaming graphics industry, Nvidia is now looking at Digital Content Creation (DCC) in Bollywood.

Nvidia, along with several other partners from the animation industry, announced the launch of "Digital Bollywood Initiative" aimed at enabling India as a Digital Content Creation powerhouse, at an event held in Mumbai on November 14.

During the occasion, Dan Vivoli, Senior Vice President of Nvidia, said, "India is poised to become the center of the DCC universe and we share India s passion and excitement for graphics and video processing. We consider ourselves fortunate that we can play a significant role in catalyzing Bollywood and view this initiative as a continuing long term investment."

This strategic initiative brings together the Nvidia technologies with industry expertise from across the globe. It is based on five main components namely technology, education, expertise, community, and partnership.

Nvidia has tailored the Gelato rendering software and Quadro technology especially for the Indian market. The consumer version of the Gelato software is now available for free download.

Secondly, education wise it will provide two courses consisting of Gelato certification and advanced digital production pipeline techniques, which will cover the digital production curriculum.

In addition, the company has also tied up with MAAC and Whistling Woods to teach the Digital Production Curriculum in their respective schools.

Further, it will provide access to DCC experts from around the world with the DCC Guru Lecture series, a series of monthly lectures. This lecture series will be delivered in multiple Indian cities, along with domain and product experts located in the country.

Last but not the least; it has initiated close working relationships with some of the major animation societies such as ASIFA, TASI, ABAI, Acris, Anibrain, Anirights, Crest, EFX, IIT, Maya Entertainment, NID, Prana, Prime Focus, and VCL to strengthen the local community.

Sharing his message for the people, Vivoli said, "We are looking for people with fine-art background, who know composition. Engineering is important but it's difficult to get people with an eye for design and creativity."

Some of the big names from the visual effects industry were also present at the event. One of them was Volker Engel, an Oscar and Emmy Award winning producer and visual effects supervisor who has worked for some of the major blockbuster like Independence Day and Godzilla.

When asked about his views on the Digital Bollywood Initiative, Engel said, "Indian talent is waiting to be unlocked and I believe that Nvidia is the only company that can play a neutral role in bringing all the Indian players together to create world class content. The company's investment and commitment to Digital Bollywood is real and I look forward to seeing its results."

Another known name from the Indian animation industry was Govind Nihalani, a film maker and Director. He believes that Nvidia's Digital Bollywood Initiative will unlock the creative potential in India and accelerate it's emergence onto the world stage.
