That's right people. You can rub your eyes to believe it; yeah! Go ahead and pinch yourself too. It's the Geforce 8800 GTX for real in Techtree Test labs.

The ATI X1950 XTX in Crossfire mode was currently the fastest gaming platform and did beat even the Quad SLI 7950 GX2 by quite a margin. You can read all about that in the article The Coliseum Fight, in which we pitched the dual ATI X1950XTX in Crossfire Mode, against dual Nvidia 7950 GX2 Quad SLI. Now, the fight between them moves on to a totally new battlefield, and Nvidia just launched the first attack and a massive one at that.

The Geforce 8800 GTX is the eighth generation of Nvidia's Geforce graphics cards. It is the world's first DirectX 10 card. DirectX 10 (DX 10) is available exclusively to Vista, which means that computers that aren't running Vista will not be able to run later applications which require DX 10. This will be very disheartening piece of news for many and the only way, for now, to play DirectX 10 titles will be an OS upgrade path.

Currently, there are only two cards in the Geforce 8 family, i.e. Geforce 8800 GTX and Geforce 8800 GTS. There's lots of difference between them, which we will explain as we go further exploring the architecture of the Geforce 8800 series of cards. The new cards were earlier coded as G80, so don't get confused between the two.
