IBM is reportedly foraying into the Digital Video Surveillance market, with the introduction of a Digital Video Surveillance (DVS) product code-named "S3" (Smart Surveillance System).
S3 is a first-of-its-kind security technology created by IBM, and promises to be the industry's most advanced digital surveillance technology.
According to IBM, S3 leverages the company's hardware, software, research, and services to enable real-time access to critical security information, to detect patterns or search for particular attributes, as also alert authorities of any suspicious behavior.
S3 also provides the capability to carry out efficient data analysis of video sequences, either in real time or from recordings. Based on open standard middleware, the S3 platform allows for the monitoring and analysis of real-world events via multiple sensors, including video cameras, radars, chemical sensors, or audio inputs. The S3 platform is able to integrate technologies from multiple vendors as well.
In addition to S3, IBM provides an unparalleled portfolio of services to assist companies in implementing their DVS solutions, which can be adapted to the needs of virtually any industry dealing with security challenges such as financial, commercial, transportation, and industrial.
So as to extend this security to the retail industry, IBM integrates the DVS service product into a broader portfolio of offerings called the "IBM Retail Loss Prevention solution". This solution gives retailers the ability to search, analyze, view, record, store activity/live action, and to quickly recall previous recordings, query events, and trigger alerts.
DVS is an integrated video surveillance and security solution that can include components such as cameras, digital video recorders, servers, storage systems, software, and network devices.
The DVS service product is already available through IBM Global Technology Services, while advanced analytics enabled by S3 are scheduled to be available world-wide in the first quarter of 2007.
