Sudeep Naik, Nov 01, 2006 1700 hrs IST

The Kodak EasyShare V570 is a compact-sized digital camera offering a resolution of 5 Megapixels. Let's have detailed clicks at it.

Dual-lens, Compact, Lightweight, Good image quality, Great color-reproduction and skin tones, Good low-light performance, Good video recording, 32 MB internal memory.

Soft Images, Images give impression of a 4-megapixel model, Not a true 23- 117 mm camera, Shoddy digital zoom for UW lens, Red-eye reduction systems fail most times, Dock-usage obligatory for charging/connecting to TV/Comp.

Feature Analysis

As mentioned earlier, the V570 has a 5.36 MP, 1/2.5-inch CCD that delivers 5.0 effective megapixels. The images are recorded as jpegs in a multitude of sizes (2576x1932, 2576x1716, 2304x1728, 2048x1536, 1552x1164).

The standard lens features a 3x optical zoom along with a 4x digital zoom. The fixed ultra wide-angle (UW) lens on the other hand loses out on the optical zoom but has the 4x optical zoom (OFF by default.)

The Kodak V570 offers an Auto exposure mode plus 21 different scene modes (portrait, panorama stitch, sport, landscape, close-up, night portrait, night landscape, snow, beach, text, fireworks, flower, manner/museum, self-portrait, party, children, backlight, panning shot, candlelight, sunset, custom). The maximum aperture is f2.8 for the 23mm lens and f3.9 (wide) - f4.4 (tele) for the zoom lens, and the shutter speed range is 8 - 1/1448th sec.

Shooting modes available on the V570 are the Normal Mode, 10 second Self-timer, and Continuous modes of 2.8 fps with a maximum of 4 images in any quality mode.

There are five different color effects available (High Color, Natural Color, Low Color, Black and White, and Sepia) and three sharpness adjustments (High, Normal and Low).

The Macro setting allows you to focus on subjects that are as close as 5cms (macro is not available with the 23mm lens). The camera offers three auto-focus systems - TTL-AF, multi-zone AF, and center zone AF; one can choose from Single, Continuous, Macro, or Landscape focus. Exposure metering systems available are multi-pattern, center-weighted, and center-spot plus an auto TTL-AE system. There is an AF assist lamp that helps achieve focus in low-light situations. The built-in flash offers four different modes (auto, off, fill, digital red-eye reduction.)

There are five ISO speeds ranging from 64 to 800 (ISO 800 is available only with 1.8 MP setting) and an Auto option. There are four different White Balance presets to choose from (daylight, tungsten, fluorescent, open shade), plus an Auto setting. Exposure compensation of +/- 2 is available in steps of 1/3 EV.

Browsing through the images, you can magnify pics upto 8x, pan, fast scroll, multi-up, view slide show, create album, access picture info, erase, protect, crop, copy, select image, storage, and Share/print them as per your preference as well as convenience.

The Kodak Easyshare V570 can record movies at 640 x 480 or 320 x 240 pixels at 30 fps with sound. Video is recorded in the Quicktime with audio format. The length of the video is only limited by the size of the memory card that you are using. 3X optical zoom is available when shooting video with digital image stabilization. You can perform on-camera video-editing as well. A histogram is available in both shooting and playback modes. The V570 supports the ImageLink and PictBridge printing standards.

A cool-looking dock gives you a battery meter and buttons for viewing and transferring pictures.

TRY canon a540 , one of the few products, which scores high on both, value for money and performance. (and the 5mp version is a530, which sells for 3k less, and doesn't have shutter/aperature priority mode, and a 1.8 inch screen)

While Kodak does produce some good digicams like the Z740-The reviewed V-530 is not the best Kodak Digicam and has in fact been replaced now with V-710 & V610 models in Kodak lineup. The 5-mega-pixel sensor used in the Kodak V570 produces noisy images at the slowest ISO speeds of 64 and 100, and noisier and blurred images at ISO 200 and 400. With no optical image stabilization system, this makes the V570 something of an outdoors, good-light only camera. The 5 mega pixel images are quite soft straight out of the camera at the default sharpening setting and ideally require some further sharpening in an application like Photoshop. I think the 3.5 stars must have been given by Sudeep only because of novelty value of V-530-in having 2 lenses-& Two 5 MP sensors. Practical value of this cam for a serious photographer is nil.

this camera(not the face) shares an uncanny resemblance with the old nintendo handhelds of the late 80's and early 90's....pre gameboy era.

We have found that Kodak Camera are a a bit of failures compared to other brands...eg LS443 (25K) and other models which we have seen them failing beyound repairs..one should be careful...and at a go you loose your investments.

Both charging (the charger connects directly) and connecting to a PC (via a very small USB adaptor) can be done without using the dock.
