Motorola has opened its seventh telecom software development center at Hyderabad in India, as part of its efforts to expand operations and counter dominance of rival Nokia.
It is learnt that the new center will house over 1,000 engineers, and will undertake work in the field of innovation in telecommunications and mobile applications, besides developing cutting-edge software for intelligent user interface in Motorola phones. The center will also work on technologies like WiMax, network management and autonomics, security and high-availability platforms.
Announcing this development, Edward J Zander, chief executive officer, Motorola, said the opening of the new R&D facility for Motorola Service Group (MSG) is one more testimony for their commitment to, and confidence in India. Software is a major driver of technology, and that the Hyderabad facility s focus on software engineering addresses a key aspect of global operations.
Going further, Padmasree Warrior, executive vice president and chief technological officer, Motorola, said the new facility will help them strengthen their technology organization, and will help Motorola develop critical IPR, as also drive innovation including next generation technologies tailor-made for specific geographies, and deliver enriching user experience through iconic products.
Firdose Vandrevala, chairman, Motorola India, and corporate vice president, Motorola, reiterated the philosophy that the new R&D facility is a significant milestone added by Motorola to the already strong India commitment chapter. He said it would help not only strengthen Motorola's existing capabilities in developing products and solutions to serve the Indian market, but also would help deliver at an accelerated pace on the organization s global commitments by leveraging Indian software expertise.

I am having some problems with recently purchased Motorola SLVR L9. 1) Battery back up is quite low (max one day with only 45 mins to 1 hr talking time and no songs listening)
2) Phone is getting hanged intermittently.
very heartening news that bears eloquent testimony to hyderabad's software and hardware prowess, otherwise why would motorola choose only hyderabad to set up the R&D center notwithstanding b'lore(The IT capital of india) and the blandishments from dayanidhi maran who unobtrusively endeavours all out to attract MNCs and their manufacturing facilities to chennai
where do you get such rubbish news from? Moto already had a centre at Hyd, they just moved to a new building. For its inauguration, Ed, YSR came to Moto's office.
