Via Technologies and Everex Systems have unveiled an energy-efficient StepNote NC1500 notebook.

The StepNote NC1500, which employs a 15.4-inch wide-screen display with DiamondBrite Technology, built-in wireless LAN, and DVD burner, utilizes the Via C7-M processor to provide ultra-low power consumption, advanced security features, and 1.5GHz performance at a mere 12W peak power.

According to Via and Everex, utilization of Via's Enhanced PowerSaver technology and its TwinTurbo allow the laptop to dynamically transition between intermediate power states, providing users with a 20 percent longer battery life than comparable systems.

Speaking on the occasion, John Lin, vice president - sales, Everex, said, "Teaming up with Via, Everex has been able to create an exciting new category of energy-efficient portable computers. Unlike products which rely on costly, power-hungry processors, or potentially hazardous batteries, the ground-breaking design of the NC1500 provides consumers with a true, no-compromise alternative."

Adding to this, Epan Wu, deputy director - CPU product marketing, Via Technologies, said, "The latest notebook from Everex embodies the 'Simply Mobile' spirit of the Via C7-M processor in enabling truly portable computing. With the best performance-per-watt operation in the industry, and innovative features such as Enhanced PowerSaver technology and the PadLock Security Engine, we are confident that the NC1500 will be a front runner in a market yearning for robust mobile solutions."

Other main features of the StepNote NC1500 include Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition with Service Pack 2, Via Unichrome Pro with Chromotion CE Video Display Engine, 512MB DDR2 SDRAM of memory, 60GB and 4200 PATA of HDD, 10/100 Ethernet LAN, 3-Cell, and Rechargeable Lithium-Ion battery. The notebook weighs around 5.9lbs.

These new notebooks will retail for around $498 (Rs 22,908 approx). Availability has not been declared as yet.

This the Notebook required in Indian market- If they market it for 23k in India- they can walk away with the 50 percent of laptop market in this country. I am sure this would hav a very good batt life because of low power requirement of C7 processor.
