The last time we catered to the business class was with a review on the Nokia 6708. This time we have it from the E Series of Nokia which is a series of mobiles dedicated for Executives; just like the N Series which is for N-tertainment. Now to get on with it, it's the Nokia E61. This mobile has been released in competition with the Blackberries and the O2s and the Treos. Let's see how it fairs.

Layout and Design
The Nokia E61 at first look gives you the feeling that you mean some serious business. The phone for basics is a quad-band GSM mobile phone though it does look more like a scientific calculator or a digital diary to the non-business oriented masses. Its dimensions are 117 x 69.7 x 14 mm and weighs 144 grams. It has a big screen, 58 x 45 mm in size with a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels, and a QWERTY keypad. The keypad has the number-pad in the center which is neatly highlighted. The QWERTY keypad is assisted with a 5-way joystick. The design of the entire keypad is neat except for the backlighting which isn't up to the mark. The number-pad, even though differently highlighted, blends too well with the rest of the QWERTY keypad. On the top right above the screen is the Power ON/OFF button which doubles as a profile selector. On the other end above the screen on the top left is a white LED which blinks whenever you miss a call or receive a message; the LED even blinks when you receive a message while in your IM chat session.

On the left side of the phone is the volume controller above which is the loudspeaker and below the volume controller is the hotkey to the Voice Recorder function. The button for the Voice Recorder is very soft and hence the voice recorder would easily activate unintentionally. The phone has an all metallic finish, but even then due its large size it really doesn't cause any problems of slipping out of your grip. The phone seems absolutely sturdy and good enough to withstand a fall or two; just make sure the screen is safe. Moreover you'll mostly be holding this phone with both hands to completely utilize the QWERTY keypad, so chances of it falling are pretty slim. The infrared port is placed at the end of the phone beside the pop-port and the charging port.
