Mercora, a digital music company, has launched its first mobile music service that transforms certain cell phones into wireless music players.

The mobile application, called Mercora M, changes Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0-based Smart phones and Pocket PC phones, including the Motorola Q, the Samsung SGH-i320, and the Palm Treo 700wx, into high-fidelity wireless music players.

The company says that after installation, Mercora M gives people "on-the-go" access to their complete digital music libraries on their PCs, so they can listen anytime, anywhere from their mobile phones.

In a statement, Srivats Sampath, president and chief executive officer, Mercora, said, "Mercora M represents a seminal shift in the way music can be delivered to people on their mobile phones. The popularity of Smart phones like the Motorola Q, coupled with the widespread proliferation of mobile broadband networks provides us with the ideal environment for building the optimal mobile music solutions based on the mPhone technology."

In addition, M users can tune in to up to five of their friends' and family members' music collections, and discover new artists and groups from around the world through social radio, which gives them access to more than 100,000 channels, searchable by artist or genre, over mobile 3G networks. Mercora M is available as a free preview for all Windows Mobile 5.0 users world-wide.

The Mercora M service, and the patent-pending Mercora mPhone technology provides users with an over-the-air access to their music libraries, socially networked listening, access to large mobile radio services, brilliant high-fidelity sound, and stereo Bluetooth support.

Mercora M is being offered as a free preview for Windows Mobile 5.0 users world-wide till October 31 this year. After the free preview period, it will be available at an introductory price of $4.99 (Rs 230 approx) per month. Subscription packages for Mercora M are $29.99 (Rs 1,380 approx) for six months, $49.99 (Rs 2,300 approx) for a year, and $99.99 (Rs 4,600) for a two-year subscription.
