Design" engineering design contest that was held to tap the country's budding engineering talent. The contest saw several students and CAD professionals using SolidWorks software to design a variety of products.
"Passion for Design" was supported by the National Association of Software and Services (NASSCOM), which chipped-in by creating interest and awareness among the student community through its IT Workforce Development Initiative.
The contest focussed on designing products for energy development, life enhancement, and handicap assistance; and gave engineering students a chance to immerse themselves in real-world design projects carrying the possibility of becoming commercial realities. Besides, the contest offered professional engineers an opportunity to demonstrate their skills before a large audience, as also potentially contribute to life-improving products.
At SolidWorks World India 2006 held in Bangalore yesterday, John McEleney, CEO of SolidWorks, announced the lucky winners of this design contest.
In the students' category, Ambar Bandi from IIT Delhi bagged top spot; Nidhin Singh from IIT Rourkee bagged 2nd place; and Vijay Kumar from KS Rangaswamy College of Technology won 3rd place. The CAD professionals' category saw Rajendran from Larsen & Toubro win 1st place; and Deepak Chandra, also from Larsen & Toubro bag 2nd position.
The toppers stand to receive over $20,000 in cash and prizes, including internship at SolidWorks, Barry Wehmiller International Resource and Geometric Software, SolidWorks Software, and HP Workstations.
