Amazon.com has reportedly revealed pricing for Microsoft's upcoming Windows Vista operating system (OS).
Amazon's Web site reveals that the company has started taking pre-orders for different versions of Vista, priced between $100 and $399. While prices of upgrade Vista versions - as disclosed on the Amazon Web site - start from $100 for Windows Vista Home Basic; $239 for Windows Vista Premium; $299 for Windows Vista Business; up to $399 for an ultimate version; prices of corresponding newer versions are cited as $199, $159, $199, and $259 respectively.
A spokesperson for Amazon.com said the company has started taking pre-orders about two or three weeks ago, in response to consumer demand, and that prices indicated have been taken from the latest price list provided by none other than Microsoft. The spokesperson further said Vista would be available January 30 onwards, but later clarified that this is but an estimated date based on informal conversations with Microsoft and others in the industry.
However, a Microsoft spokesperson refused to comment on the matter, saying that pricing and release date for Vista is not as yet finalized.
Further, Rick Sherlund, analyst, Goldman Sachs, who happened to be among the first to see the price listing on Amazon.com, issued a note to a client saying the pricing given by the Amazon Web site for high-end versions of Vista is more than what he forecasts. Sherlund added that the release date of January 30 is almost two months earlier than what he expects.
Such prices won't work out in India,
For people to buy Genuine OS, the price must be some where around a thousand or two in rupees. people cannot just invest $200 or 9000 in rupees for OS only. Piracy is sure to increase at such rates.
