Nikon has unveiled two "L" or Life series plus three "S" or Style series CoolPix digital cameras that use Secure Digital (SD) cards for additional storage capacity, as well as connect to Macs using USB.
The new cameras include features that allow for in-camera editing and manipulating of pictures, as well as video recording and functionality that would allow for better pictures in low-light conditions.
Under the Life series, the CoolPix L5 features 7.2-megapixel sensor, vibration reduction, and a 5x Zoom-Nikkor glass lens. Priced at $299.99, the camera has 8MB of internal memory, a 2.5-inch LCD, in-camera red eye fix, 15 scene modes, and support for PictBridge one-step printing.
The other Life series model, CoolPix L6, has a 6.0-megapixel sensor with 3x optical zoom. One of the most attractive features of this model is its battery life, as Nikon estimates the camera can take 1,000 pictures on a single set of Energizer e2 Lithium AA-batteries. Besides, it auto-adjusts to ISO 800, boasts 23MB of internal memory, features a 2.5-inch display, and is priced at $199.95.
In the Style line of Nikon digital cameras, the CoolPix S9 is a 6.1-megapixel slim model, sporting a 2.5-inch LCD screen, 3x zoom, and 24MB of internal memory. The camera, which also has the functionality to produce stop-motion animation, is priced at $249.95.
Whereas, the CoolPix S10 features a 6.0-megapixel sensor, a 10x optical zoom, vibration reduction, and a 2.5-inch LCD screen. The camera includes the facility of Picmotion, thus allowing photographers to combine images, movies, music, and visual styles in camera to produce multimedia presentations. The S10 will retail for $399.95.
The last in the S series, the CoolPix S7c, has a 7.1-megapixel sensor and a 3x optical zoom lens, a large 3.0-inch LCD display, wireless connect, 14MB of internal memory, and can auto-adjust to ISO 1600. The camera includes e-mail functionality through T-Mobile Hotspot that enables users to e-mail pictures directly using built-in Wi-Fi connectivity. The S7c is priced at $349.95.
Said Bill Giordano, general manager - marketing, CoolPix, Nikon, "Developed with the consumer in mind, Nikon has combined exceptional features with world-renowned quality design and style at attractive prices."
Nikon says its CoolPix series is expected to ship in September 2006.
