Features

The S6 features a large 3-inch LCD display that has a viewing angle of 170 degrees (both horizontally and vertically.) Nikon has kept the number of buttons on the cam to a bare minimum with the software playing a major role. The menu and options differ for most of the modes thus eliminating the need for more buttons. It also means that there is little or, at times, no room for customization for a particular shot.
The Nikon S6 also features Auto Image Rotation, which detects pictures that have been taken with the camera held vertically, automatically rotating them to suit in-camera LCD playback.
With respect to controls, the S6 features a new Rotary multi-selector that allows fast circular scrolling for speedy image browsing (up to 10 fps) and easy selection of desired functions. Users can select functions by name or icon according to their personal preference.
The lens is a 3x Zoom-Nikkor ED with a range of 35-105mm (35mm equivalent.) And with the 4x digital zoom, the S6 has a total 12x zoom capability. The Nikon Coolpix S6 also boasts of a One-touch portrait button, located at the top of the camera body, making it much simpler to take better quality pictures by offering easy access to Nikon's unique Face-priority AF, In-Camera Red-Eye Fix, and D-Lighting functions. With Face-priority AF, the camera can automatically detect people's faces in the frame to produce sharply focussed portraits.
With a selection of 16 Scene modes; 4 with Scene assist, the S6 allows users to get satisfying results, aided by clear focus and optimal exposure in almost all situations.
But, one should always keep in mind that the image quality largely depends on the correct selection of mode and scene settings by the user.
Although it may not be right all the time, image censors in the camera tell you when the clicked image is blurred a little too much. In case the subject is a still object, one can always use the BSS (Best Shot Selector) that identifies and saves the sharpest shot automatically from ten sequential shots.
Three movie modes with sound are also available for capturing action at up to 30 fps. It also features Time-lapse movie shooting capability that allows dramatic results to be created out of slow-moving action for example, shooting a flower blooming or a movie of clouds rushing across the sky.
For speeding up the process of searching recorded images in the camera is a Calendar function that automatically sorts images according to the date they were clicked.
The Coolpix S6 also features the COOL-STATION MV-15 that allows batteries to be recharged while they are still in the camera. It offers USB connectivity and can even be hooked up for TV display. The bundled PictureProject software makes editing pictures, organizing shots, and sharing images very simple and offers a range of plug-ins for image editing.
