Called the "Norton Internet Security," the service will be provided by Yahoo!, and is designed to protect online users from threats like viruses, hackers, spyware, and spam.
The new Norton Internet Security promises to be an all-in-one security suite, featuring Norton AntiVirus and Norton Personal Firewall that automatically protect consumers online by detecting and blocking spyware, viruses, and unwanted adware; filtering spam; and scanning e-mail and attachments to remove viruses, Trojan horses, and worms.
Speaking about the partnership, Enrique Salem, group president - consumer products, Symantec, said that Symantec and Yahoo! share a vision of protecting consumers online, and that they are thrilled to partner to offer Symantec products to Yahoo!'s audience of hundreds of millions globally.
Adding to it, Stephen Miller, director - product management, Yahoo!, said that Internet security is important to their users, and that by working with Symantec, they are bringing the comfortable security blanket that their Norton brand services provide to consumers around-the-world.
The two companies are offering consumers a complimentary 30-day trial of Norton Internet Security, and when the trial period ends, customers can then purchase a full 12-month subscription by paying $49.99. The co-branded security suite is available for download at http://downloads.yahoo.com/security.
Besides, Yahoo! will market the Norton Internet Security service through the Yahoo! network, which includes Yahoo! Mail, Yahoo! Toolbar, Yahoo! Search, and other online services.
In addition to the launch of Norton Internet Security, Yahoo! and Symantec are working together to offer consumers a range of tools that combine Symantec's powerful Internet security services with other select Yahoo! products to help consumers keep safe online.
These services include Norton Spyware Scan for Yahoo! Toolbar, Symantec Yahoo! Toolbar, Yahoo! Online Protection featuring Norton AntiVirus and Norton Personal Firewall, and Norton AntiVirus Scan for Yahoo! Mail and HotJobs.
