Adding to the football fever, Electronic Arts (EA) has started shipping the 2006 FIFA World Cup Game to stores around-the-world.
The new game qualifies as the sole officially licensed video game of the FIFA 2006 event, and boasts of enhanced game-play attributes and stunning graphics.
The release marks the extension of the EA-FIFA partnership, and in effect makes EA the world-wide and exclusive FIFA licensee for Soccer action games across console platforms, mobile phones, and other online formats.
Under the aegis of the extended partnership, EA will continue to bring the most genuine of Soccer gaming experiences to consumers, right through future FIFA World Cups to be held in 2010 and 2014.
Gerhard Florin, executive vice president and general manager - international publishing, EA, said, "Renewing our strategic partnership with FIFA will enable us to continue to deliver the most authentic football titles to fans, who have helped to make our FIFA games the most successful football videogame franchise in the world."
According to EA, the new game allows users to step right into the heart of the action, as they play their favorite team or most loathed opponent. The game offers stunning visual representations of Soccer super stars, as also the 12-odd official stadiums where the action typically takes place. The game not only allows players to take control of one of the 127 national teams, but also to enjoy new game-play tactics.
The game facilitates eight-way multiplayer matches, and lets users exploit in-game un-lockable content including legendary players, exclusive licensed football apparel, etc. EA claims that the game will re-create historic moments of FIFA, using modern teams.
Rated as E (Everyone) by the ESRB (Entertainment Software Rating Board), the 2006 FIFA World Cup Game is available in North America, Europe, and Asia on the PlayStation2 (PS2), Xbox and Xbox 360, Nintendo GameCube, Nintendo DS, and Game Boy Advance.
