Artech, a MNC IT company, has reportedly opened an IT centre for women dubbed the "Artech Centre for Information Technology," in association with the Banasthali Vidyapith located in Jaipur, Rajasthan. The Banasthali Vidyapith qualifies as one of the five universities in the country, meant exclusively for women.
Under the aegis of this association, the Banasthali Vidyapith, a 70-year old institution dedicated to the cause of women's education, will provide a Bachelors' and a Masters' Degree in the domain of Information Technology, and will help computerize other departments of the varsity.
The newly-opened center will train women with a judicious mix of software, hardware, and communication technologies, and will enable research and development in the field of IT. The center plans to provide the right blend of academic and technological expertise and entrepreneurial attitude, through its five-fold education program.
According to Artech, women software developers amount to just 37 percent largely due to the shortage of institutions devoted to teaching women IT. As such, there is a severe shortage of women IT professionals, and the company intends to fill this gap with requisite training.
Artech, presently operating in USA and China, has sponsored this centre that promises to provide world-class facilities. The centre boasts of internally networked specialized computer laboratories, communication labs, software engineering labs, VLSI design labs, multimedia laboratories, gigabit LAN, high bandwidth Internet connectivity, videoconferencing-ready seminar room, among other facilities.
