Yahoo! Search has announced the release of "My Web 2.0," its personal and social search engine, in the country.

"My Web 2.0" enables users to create their own personal online archive, by saving their favorite pages, search results, and search history to My Web. Users can save, organize, and find pages in a superior manner, as pages can be tagged and organised, and the content of pages can be cached. Unlike bookmarks, users can access My Web from any computer like Web mail, with no risk of losing saved bookmarks.

My Web content from a user's own personal archive, and from a user's community are both displayed in the typical Web search results page.

Commenting on "My Web 2.0," George Zacharias, managing director, Yahoo! India, said, "My Web 2.0 dramatically improves the relevance of search results. The Internet is becoming more community-oriented, and users want access to trusted information. We see social search as the next phase of Web search. My Web helps users tap into the power of communities, using tagging and sharing to improve their search experience. My Web 2.0 combines social search, with the power of Web search, to provide the user with more relevant results."

With "My Web 2.0," users need to sign-up to My Web, and run a search to see the results at the top of the page. The results are derived from content that users save on My Web, as also interesting links that other people have saved.

The new and improved search engine claims to be an improvement over its pre-decessor, and features tagging to help categorize saved pages in a much more flexible way than folders; unidirectional connections to enable people discover interesting pages of specific users, and subscribe to them, or better automatically add them as contacts; and additional sharing controls to help users alone to access saved pages.

My Web 2.0 also offers enhanced profile personalization, wherein users can create unique online identities by assigning photos or 'avatars', nicknames, and email addresses to online identities. The new search allows users to import Web pages and bookmarks, and to save pages directly with the Yahoo! Toolbar.
