Nvidia has officially released their newest and highest-end graphics processing unit (GPU), the GeForce 7950 GX2, which the company says is the world's fastest graphics card.
The GeForce 7950 GX2 performs as much as 72 percent faster than the leading single-GPU graphics cards on the market, by harnessing the power of two GeForce 7950 GPUs on one card.
Nvidia claims the card will offer a combined 48 pixel pipes, 16 vertex shaders, 76.8 GB per second of memory bandwidth, 24 billion texels per second of fill rate, and two dual-link DVI connections.
In a statement, Ujesh Desai, general manager - desktop GPUs, Nvidia, said that the GeForce 7950 GX2 is a great card for the gamer who's looking for the best performance in a single graphics card solution.
Desai said that with this kind of power, gamers could crank up their screen resolution to an unbelievable 2560 x 1600 for an extreme high definition gaming experience.
Other features of the card include two high-performance GPUs working simultaneously on a single card; 1GB of fast GDDR3 video memory on a single card; hardware-accelerated H.264 support through Nvidia PureVideo technology, and high-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) capability.
The card also features support for Quad Nvidia SLI technology, thus allowing Nvidia authorized system builders to combine the power of two GeForce 7950 GX2 graphics cards, so as to dramatically increase graphics horsepower.
Meanwhile, the cards are immediately available from leading add-in card manufacturers, e-tailors, and system builders, for a suggested price of between $600 and $650.

Life for this card is not long. Its been discussrd across different forums on net. Microsoft will release Vista in Jan07 with DX 10 support & developers will move to DX 10. By the time it reaches India & with a price drop it will be obsolete with its DX 9 support.
Better wait for DX 10 cards if someone wants such high end cards, when Vista hit stores & new cards are announced!!
when directx 10 games hit the market will cards like 6600gt(dx 9c) be able to play those games at all,or will they run, but one will just miss just some eye. candy
allow me to say that unified shaders is just the same as 2x discreet shaders (dx9 cards and earlier) so an sli now wont be a bad investment actually for a 'crysis' in your wallet when unified shader architecture with 24pixel pipes dx10 wont be better than this monster (radeon9800pro still dx8.1 but puts the 6600 to shame). although, at $900 AUD, its still so expensive to match for my VX922 at 1280x1024 when we know it doesnt support AA&AF on HDR. plus, i would also need another waterblock for my zalman reserator.
now if only ATI didnt have buggy linux drivers... currently, im so horribly geared to a x1900gt or a 7900gt but wanting a 7950 in the back of my head. damn. im keepin my 6800 for a little more while i enjoy 1024x768 with 0x AA&AF FOR SHAME!!.. besides, im playin the emulated mortal kombat from sega with the xbox360 controller on my pc right now anyways 8)
Great! exactly what we needed! a dual-core GPU after the dual-core CPU [Intel Pentium D and Athlon 64 4800+]. Wonder wether they'll make dual core sound cards, motherboards, cell phones, pdas,...
After all, "Ek se bhale do" is what we say in India!
this card is not at all worth the money when DX10 cards are just around the corner.. i wonder why nvidia launched this at the first place? if u have loads of money and dont know how to spend, sure go ahead and buy this beast!
I'm sure it will be absurdly priced so that by the time we can get our hands on it, two years would have gone by. Need to see if ATI has something better to offer.
