Haier Telecom India has launched its GSM and CDMA range of handsets in the Indian market. With this launch, Haier intends to make its presence felt in the country.
The Haier cell phones, with a price range of Rs 2,000 to Rs 20,000, come loaded with features such as polyphonic ring tones and color display. Haier's GSM phones incorporate the "Quick In" feature that facilitates faster contact search and downloading.
According to sources, the company is in talks with an Indian GSM operator to develop customized packages for its GSM handset range. Recently, Tata Teleservices had launched the handset model D1000 from Haier, under its "Don't Stop Mobile" scheme.
Announcing the launch, Arun Khanna, vice-chairman and managing director, Haier Telecom India, said that with the launch of their state-of-the-art mobile sets, comprising entry-level as well as high-end models, they have set a target to achieve sales of 50 lakh handsets in the first phase of the launch.
Moreover, Haier Group chairman, Chai Yongsen said that with the present rate of growth, India is poised to become one of the top two mobile markets in the world.
Meanwhile, Haier has tied up with TVS Electronics for after-sales services to its customers through the latter's 250 odd service centers in the country.
Haier says they are also considering setting up a manufacturing unit in the country, in the next 18 to 24 months.
